Busy B and Mommy!

Hey there folks! Sorry if it seems like I've been a little MIA this week.  I totally forgot to mention to you all that my sister-in-law is getting married this weekend! This is my husband's only sibling, and we LOVE Rachel so much, not to mention the guy she's marrying... Thomas! Yay- Balian will have another uncle, and I'll have another brother-in-law! We have been very, very busy this week with our usual busy-ness, plus wedding stuff! Sacha has taken Balian with him to work for a few hours this morning so I can have a little time to get our house in order before company comes! We can't wait to see extended family and enjoy this wonderful celebration! I'm singing during the wedding ceremony on Saturday, and have to practice with my dad today... he'll be accompanying me! :) Don't worry, I'll post plenty of pictures of all of us dressed all spiffy for the wedding. Can't wait!

While I'm away from being able to do a lot of posting this weekend, please don't forget that we've got two great giveaways going on right now!

Follow the rules, and enter both of these great giveaways! Winners will be drawn next week!!

Along with those giveaways, I've got a friend referral contest happening over on The Mommy Blog's Facebook Page! Head on over there and refer all of your friends to 'LIKE' our page! I'm giving away a Mint Chocolate Jar Candle from Celebrating Home to the winner next Monday!

And just for all of you well-deserving mommies... I have a BIG Mother's Day Giveaway Extravaganza coming up through our Facebook page starting May 5th! Can't wait for you to see all of the wonderful prizes you can enter to win!

Mommy's Make Up Bag: Issue 1

So, I've decided to start doing these cute little postlets on MUST HAVE items for busy mommas. I'll start with a make up bag item, because I am over the moon about this new product. Avon Rep Brittany Brownfield was kind enough to send me some samples of the new Magic X Face Perfector. I was super excited to receive it and try it!

I used to spend anywhere from fifteen to twenty minutes applying my make up each morning. I built that time into my morning routine, and enjoyed it! Now that Balian is in my life, I am always struggling to get my teeth brushed at a decent hour, let alone have a minute to put some make up on, and heck- some days, it just doesn't happen (that make up, that is... I always make sure to brush my teeth!). Fortunately, I can go without make up if I have to... but my main problem has always been excess oil. Seriously, I could be coated with oil on my forehead not twenty minutes after washing my face (thank goodness pregnancy changed that!)! It's embarrassing, and I hate having to powder my face every half hour... who has that kind of time!? My Avon rep told me about this new product that Avon was coming out with, and encouraged me to give it a try:

Magic X Face Perfector

A magical air-light gel-powder colorless formula that makes all skin tones look flawless... invisible coverage; instant perfection. Banish shine up to 10 hours. Apply evenly before sun exposure or as needed.
1 fl. oz.

This is a beauty bag MUST! Mommy or not, every gal needs this secret weapon as her best pal! Now that I've been using it for a few days, I can honestly say that it keeps me shine free ALL DAY! Make up or no make up, this thing works!! I took Balian for a walk yesterday in 80 degree afternoon heat, got all sweaty, but my make up stayed perfectly intact! I've been wearing it all day today with no make up on, and my skin looks and feels fantastic, and has remained shine free ALL DAY!

I give this product ***** FIVE STARS! I have pretty much exhausted my supply of samples, so I am putting my Avon order in for this product right now! Wanna give it a try? What are you waiting for? Get Yours! It's on sale right now for $7.99!!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Depending on how much rain we'll get here in the Carolinas this spring and summer, I am hoping my flower beds and vegetable garden do really well this year! Balian spent a few hours with his GiGi (Great Grandma Alice) yesterday, which gave me some time to catch up on things that I have been needing to do outside! We went to The Garden, a local nursery over the weekend and bought them out! Just kidding! We did get a few plants, though. I love gardening, so to be outside mulching, digging, planting, watering, etc is just heaven for me!

I can't go too crazy with plants this year, because my time is consumed by my favorite little man in the whole world! I can take him outside with me for a little while... I just put his bouncy activity center on the porch or in the yard and he watched what's going on in the neighborhood while I work. The hot Carolina sun sends us back inside after about thirty minutes, though.

I have to be selective with the flowers. I have to plant things that won't wither in our hot summers and can withstand drought conditions. Last summer was so bad, none of our vegetables did much of anything! The flowers beds all got mulched yesterday. They still have rows of pansies and violas, which I'll leave until they get too leggy-looking... won't be long! I have petunias coming back from last year, and don't ask me how that's happening- can't imagine how they made it through our rough winter months. I've got black eyed susan's coming up (love those), and they've multiplied a little bit since last year. I have salvia coming back (Sacha had to remind me that I planted some of that in the front beds... I thought it was a weed!), and annual lantana! I decided to incorporate the shrubs into the bed this year, so I mulched around them and planted verbena around the edges. Those will start creeping out and look lovely! I have two perennial lantana plants that were potted last year. I transplanted one of them yesterday, and need to find a good spot for the second one. I thought that they were dead, but the branches are green when you break them off, and they are still putting out their fragrance, so I have a feeling that I'll be seeing leafy green sprouts sometime soon. I love lantana- you don't have to do a thing to them, and they get huge... and attract hummingbirds and butterflies!

On my porch, I have portulaca planted in the column pots. Those will vine out and trail over the edges nicely! They put our such colorful blooms! I have impatients that are potted, I moved my cactus plants outside, and I have a few pansies potted on the porch and going up the front steps.

In the back beds, and alongside the house, I've planted irises and zinnias, There are already a lot of other things planted there- azaleas, another flowering bush that I can't think of its name, variegated grasses, pansies, salvia, ice plants, etc. Lot's of beautiful plants, which I just love!

In the veggie garden this year, we've planted cucumbers, zucchini, squash, eggplant, tomatoes, and red and green peppers. Decided not to plant okra again this year, because it ended up being more trouble than it was worth last year. Hopefully, we will be enjoying these veggies in a couple of months!

Yes, I still want more flowers, and I'll have a few areas to fill when some of the annuals from this spring die off, but I'll have to just be satisfied with what we have, and enjoy it. I have lot's of gardening to do at my mom's house, my mother-in-law's house, and a friend's house, where they want me to design a butterfly garden for them! :) How nice that will be!

Well, I hear my little man stirring in the other room, so that means it's time to be up for the day!
Hope you all enjoy your Wednesday!

'Happy Wednesday, everyone!'

Jordan Essentials Review

My friend Darleen from Jordan Essentials was kind enough to send me a few samples of some of the amazing products she represents. I was so excited to receive them, and have been using what she sent to me all week!

The first thing we tried was the Baby Lotion Bar, Powder Fresh. What a neat thing this is! It really is lotion in a bar- for babies! I decided to try this on Balian's feet. Don't laugh... they get very sweaty and stinky during the day! I popped the Lotion Bar out of the container, rubbed it over his cute little feeties (which he thought was a game, and laughed at the whole time), and waited. After a few minutes, I checked those cute little feet... and they were so soft and smooth, and stinky-free! This is a wonderful product for busy moms. You can carry this with you (I would say it's a diaper bag essential!) without having to worry about lotion spilling out all over the place or taking up a lot of room. This will be one of my new staples for Balian! It's a great price, too! Only $6.50 for the full sized Lotion Bar! Give this one a try- you won't be disappointed!

The next wonderful product Darleen sent to me is this absolutely luscious Chocolate Mint Massage Bar! This is also a Lotion Bar... just as handy as the Baby Lotion Bar, in the same kind of pop-out container. The product description reads 'Cocoa butter and hint of mint. Great for stretch marks & dry skin needs. Smells so wonderful you'll want to eat it!'  Let me just say that I completely agree with the description. It's like whipped silk in a little disc! Not only that, it DOES smell so good that I'd like to eat it. I showed it to Sacha (my husband) and let him smell it (mint chocolate chip is his absolute favorite ice cream), and he said, 'Mmm... is that for me?' :) Well, I guess he'll enjoy it just as much as I am enjoying it, which is quite a lot!! Oh- and it has worked wonders on my stretch marks! I don't have very many of them, but there are a few- and of course, they're in places that will be visible while I'm rockin' my new mom body at the beach this summer. Tell you what... I smoothed the lotion bar over those stretch marks, and they have lightened in appearance after just using it for three nights in a row. Now, I'm not advocating that this is going to make your stretch marks disappear or anything, but it has helped mine- and I'll take anything that'll get that job done! And what a great price! It's just $7.50 for the full size bar! Mommas (and friends), I give this product two thumbs up!

And last, but certainly not least, Darleen sent me a sample of Jordan Essential's Shea Body Butter, in the Cucumber Melon scent. First of all, shea body butter is a staple in our house. My husband just goes nuts over having it. He loves for me to massage body butters over his feet, which are so smooth on top, but very dry on the bottom. We've tried a lot of different body butters, but this one has really left both of our feet feeling super smooth for more than just the overnight period. This is a type of healing butter, which will really work wonders if your feet (or any of your skin) are super dry. We're coming off of a cold Carolina winter, where most of us have suffered from dry skin. This body butter is getting our skin beautiful for the summer! And here in the Carolinas, we usually go right from winter to summer, from hiding our legs and not shaving them to digging for a new razor blade and breaking out the Bermuda Shorts! Ladies, this is the way to go this summer and all year long! There are 15 scents to choose from, and this comes to you in an 8 oz jar for just $20.00! I can't wait to try the Oatmeal, Milk and Honey scented one next!

A super big thanks to Darleen B. from Jordan Essentials for sending me these amazing products to try. I was in no way compensated for reviewing these products. All of the opinions expressed above are solely my own. Please support Darleen's Jordan Essentials business by giving some of these great products a try! If you have any questions about the products I reviewed or any others, feel free to contact Darleen.

Costume Squad T-Shirt Review

Our friends over at Costume Squad also let me choose a T-Shirt from their site to try out. I did scroll through some of their other categories. The costumes aren't for me, but who knows- they may be right up your alley. They also have pretty cute costumes for dogs! They have lot's of girls t-shirts, though.

I chose a T-Shirt that I actually first saw on a onesie, that I thought would be super cute for Balian! They had it in an adult sized T, and it's cute for us mommies, too. I picked the Dinosaurs Are Cool shirt, because Balian is all about dinosaurs right now. Heck, I'm even starting to plan his dino-themed first birthday party (yes, which I realize is still 6 months away). This shirt is pretty fitted, so if you have a small frame, I'd suggest you go with a medium. The T-Shirt is in the Girls T-Shirts category.

Thanks for the shirt, Costume Squad!

Crazy Dog Shirts Review

Crazy Dogs Shirts was kind enough to send me a T-Shirt of my choice to wear and review! They have so many cute shirts for girls, it was hard to choose just one! Some of them were a little too risque for my personal taste, though. I'm a conservative momma, so I chose a shirt that I thought would be appropriate considering my age and values. I chose the RECYCLE T, and honestly, I wish I had had it right after having Balian. How many of us feel like- 'so what if I had this on yesterday?' right after having a baby! Well, if it reeked of spit-up, that would be cause enough for a fresh shirt!

I really like this Tee! It's soft, cute and comfortable. I was a little off on the sizing, though. I ordered an Adult Small, because they are usually a little roomy, but this shirt is very fitted, which is also just fine. I'll be wearing this quite a bit while Balian and I are enjoying the beautiful spring weather we've been having.

If you like this Tee, you can get one for yourself over at Crazy Dog Shirts
The Recycle T is listed in the Girls Shirts category.

Thanks, Crazy Dog Shirts!!

Teething Stinks

Balian was an extremely colicky baby. When it started, he was only two weeks old, and we didn't know what in the world set him off and made him start wailing. It continued for weeks and weeks from about 4 pm to sometimes 1 am. People kept asking, 'Oh, is he a little colicky?' 'A little?' I wanted to reply. A LITTLE doesn't even begin to describe how bad it was. I know we're not the first parents to deal with colic, and we certainly won't be the last. My mom told me that if I thought the colic was bad to just wait until Balian started teething. So far, colic was definitely worse. He is teething- the poor thing, and I can almost take the constant whining over the constant crying. The only thing that bugs me is that no matter what I do, nothing seems to help my little man feel better. Baby Oragel does nothing but make him choke and cough, and I hate to resort to giving him Infant Advil, but sometimes I have no choice. He hates all of his teethers, won't chew on a washcloth, and he has just about bitten a piece of my index finger off. Man, oh, man, does that boy love to CHOMP! :) He went all day without a nap until just around 5 pm, when he was nursing and fell asleep in my arms. He was a much better eater today, though. Ate his breakfast of cereal right up, along with applesauce for lunch and carrots for dinner. I just wish he would be better about sleeping. At least he's been asleep in his crib for just about an hour now, and still going strong. I'm hoping he lasts a few hours before stirring and waking himself up.

On a much lighter note, I wanted to let you all know that there are some really awesome reviews and giveaways coming soon, so keep checking back daily to make sure you don't miss out on anything. Many of you are well-deserving mommies who deserve treats for yourselves and your LO's. I'll bring you as many freebies, deals and giveaways as I can. :)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We don't have much planned for tomorrow (Saturday), but Sunday is going to be out of this world busy! If you don't hear from me for a couple of days, that's why! Hang in there, everyone and have a safe and happy weekend. Get out there, enjoy the beautiful weather and your families!

Now, That's More Like It

It's back to feeling like spring around here. We had beautiful weather back in the mid 50's today, which meant that it was perfect weather for Balian and I to spend some time together outside. He's so cute- he absolutely LOVES to be outside. Well, he mostly loves to be outside. We went for two walks today- one much longer than the other, but that's okay. B's big enough to be in his umbrella stroller now, so that's something new. It's harder to me to walk with, though, because I can't adjust the height of the handles and I feel like I'm hunched over while pushing it... just have to get used to it, I guess. I got my hand back into the dirt today, and it felt great! If you don't already know this about me, I love to garden and landscape. I'm actually in the process of designing a butterfly garden for some friends of ours. Wish I could have a butterfly garden at my house! I get to do pretty much anything I want to as far as planting goes around here. My neighbor gave us tons of irises to transplant, so I spent a little bit of time digging a new bed out for them this afternoon, and getting them back into the ground. I still have mulching and edging to do (have to do that for all of the beds, really), but everything has to be done in spare time... or when someone else is actually at home with me to keep an eye on Balian. Here are a few pics to show you what we've been up to outside:

Irises on the side of the front porch...

 Front porch...

 Front of the house...

 Front of the house...

Flower beds along the alley/back of the house...

Moving on to more important news, Balian received his first big boy high chair yesterday! It's a gift from his G.G. (my Gram). It's adorable, very practical, and so far, so good... he's enjoyed three big boy meals sitting in it today. It's nice that we can all sit at the table together, now. :) Here are some pics (you know you want to see them!):

 'I'm a big boy, now!'

 'Ready for supper, mommy!'

'On second thought, can't make me!'

The cutest!

All in all, we had a great day. On another note- We've been having a lot of trouble getting Balian to sleep in his crib. He refuses to nap in there during the day, and night time is becoming rough, too. Some nights, he does really well and sleeps 4-6 hours in his crib, and then sometimes, we have nights like tonight, where I've been trying to put him down since 7:30! He's asleep now, though... thank goodness! With him not napping and fighting me to go to sleep, I have just about zero time to get anything done these days. Frustrating, but what can I do? I haven't tried the 'cry it out' method with him yet. I don't want to... it seems so mean. May have to resort to it soon, though... I want my bed back! Yeah, did I mention that when he's really asleep, it's because he's sleeping with us? It's my own fault, and I know that. I nursed him to sleep in my bed from the beginning, and when he had trouble going to sleep, I would put him down beside me, and nurse him in the side-lying position. We both enjoyed the cuddling. And then, of course, when he got too big for his bassinet, instead of just trying him out in his crib, we let him sleep in his PNP in our room. We've been trying the crib for over a month and as soon as his head hits the mattress, he wakes up! It's like he knows it's not mommy and daddy's bed, or sheets and he just doesn't belong in there. I honestly don't have a big problem with him sleeping with us- we all usually get really good sleep. I just don't want him to be a year old, and not sleeping in his own room! And yes, eventually, we'd love to have our bed back to ourselves! We know that co-sleeping is really controversial in the United States, but we make it as safe as possible, when he is in bed with us. Ah... had to take a quick break there for a minute as I put Balian back into his crib for the fifth time tonight! Ugh! To make matters worse, he is such a light sleeper that any little noise he hears wakes him up... we have extremely loud neighbors, on all sides, and the floor boards in our house are so creaky that they are constantly waking him up. I'm not a heavy person, and I can't believe how much noise they make when I walk in and out of his room! Oh well- he's asleep in his crib for now. We'll see how long that lasts.

Well, I'm off to try to catch a few Zzzz's before Balian wakes up again. Sweet dreams to you all! Oh- and check back soon- there's going to be a new giveaway announced in a week or two, and you're going to want to enter to win it! Also, don't forget about the AVON Giveaway happening now! Okay, for real this time... goodnight!

Oh, Let This Day Be Done!

It's 9 pm, but to me, it feels much more like 1 am- tomorrow, that is. I am utterly exhausted from this day! Doesn't help that it didn't get off to the best start. My direct sales company (Celebrating Home) kicked off their Last Chance Sale today. It was slated to begin at 6 am, Central Time. I had planned to get up at 7 am, get right to the coffee pot, then online to see what was in the sale, and to place my order. Well, I was up around 6:30, nursing Balian and fell back asleep with him cuddled up right beside me. Next thing I knew, Balian was awake, talking (da-da-da-ing, to be exact) and it was 7:30! I rushed right to the computer, got to the site and placed my sale order. Have to get those orders in early, before everything you want is sold out within the first hour!

This morning was very rushed. Sacha mentioned that he wanted to leave for work a little earlier than usual, which meant that I had less time to try to get any work done and had to get my butt into the shower or else it wasn't happening before Sacha was out the door. As usual, things went awry. I forgot that I had a package and catalog to get out in the mail, so those had to be packed, addressed and sent off with Sacha. Balian was fussy right from the start this morning. He gave Sacha a hard time while he tried to feed him his breakfast of delicious cereal and peaches, so I knew I was in for it the remainder of the day. And boy, was I right! Poor Balian fussed all day long! Every time I put him down for two seconds, he started screaming. I had to go to a meeting yesterday afternoon, and his Auntie Rachel came to watch him for a couple of hours. Maybe he thought I was going to leave him again today or something. I wouldn't have gone out of the house today even if I wanted to! It was one o'clock this afternoon before I even got to put on any make up. I'm lucky that I got to brush my teeth before lunch time today! I guess it's my own fault, though. Between Balian, trying to run my own business, take care of church responsibilities and run my household, there just aren't enough hours in the day or days in the week to get everything done!

I've been so behind on laundry all week long that today had to become a laundry day, like it or not. Balian is usually awesomely behaved when I have to do laundry. He rolls around on the bed, and I fold everything there with him, we play games with the clothes and sing silly songs, etc... he just wasn't into any of that today. And to make matters worse... I had to go through B's dresser today and pull out any lingering 0-3 articles of clothing (don't know how I missed them the last time I went through those drawers), rearrange all of the 3-6 stuff, and had to get a bunch of 6 mo stuff washed and into the drawers so he'll have a chance to wear some of those things before he outgrows them in a few weeks. And then I get to do it all over again in a couple of weeks when he moves into the 6-9 clothes! My baby is getting too big, too fast!

Did I mention that I had about 6 dozen cookies to bake this afternoon (for a luncheon taking place at church this Sunday)? That means That I have cleaned the kitchen a total of three times today. The cookies did get baked- sort of in sifts though, because Balian had a major blow out while batch #3 was in the oven. Eight minutes left on the timer- plenty of time to get him to the changing pad, stripped, get his back washed off, bum cleaned, butt pasted, fresh diaper, outfit soaking in the poopy pail, get new clothes on and run a quick load of laundry. Actually, had three minutes to spare. After that, the cookies came out of the oven, Balian and I played in his room with Jungle Kitty and friends, and then I watched him play roly poly for fifteen minutes or so. Then it was time to nurse again, quick cat nap- not hard enough for me to put him down to sleep, though. Then it was time for me to fold more clothes, so he played in his bouncy activity center in our bedroom, we watched the news, and Sacha as home from work. Had a few minutes to help fold laundry and get showered. Sacha got Balian all situated and ready for supper. He's doing very well with his solids- enjoying the carrots after the third try! Yay! A vegetable winner! B hung out in his swing with us in the kitchen while we started dinner. Sacha heated up the grill and threw on a nice piece of London broil, while I started on the zucchini and shells and cheese! We had a very tiny window to get dinner ready and eat, because Sacha had to be at the Merony Theatre by 7:15. He's playing a few shows down there over the next two weeks... HAIRSPRAY! So, with him out the door, the kitchen a huge mess, and Balian getting very sleepy, I decided to leave the kitchen for later (gasp!) and get Balian into the bath tub. He had a marvelous time- splishing and splashing and I managed not to come out of the bathroom with a soaking wet shirt! Score one for mom! After he was all nice and dry and in his jammies, we had a story, nursed, cuddled, and he conked out around 8:15... was down in the crib around 8:30. I cleaned up the kitchen, put a few things away, answered many e-mails that have piled up all day long, watered the houseplants, and now here I am- ready to fall asleep at the computer at 9:40 pm. My contacts are fuzzy and my pj's are begging me to pull them out of the dresser.

I don't know how some moms manage to work full time when they have little ones. I stay at home and can barely keep up! Sacha calls me super woman all the time, and some days I feel like it, while most days, I certainly don't. Like most new moms, I just have to take it easy- one day at a time, and let the dishes or the laundry go every once in a while. I'm not perfect, neither is my house... or my yard... or my punctuation at this point. Bottom line is that I'm a mommy, and that will always come first, because there is now a sweet little boy in my life who needs me... and a very handsome man who needs me, too... and I need them just as much. This is my life- hectic, unpredictable, and truly blessed. Can't wait to do it all again tomorrow.

Good night!
