When Do You Call in the Professionals to Help You With DIY?

When you own a home, there are a lot of great things about it. It is great to be able to put your money into something; a real investment. There are some negative things to it, though. It means that you are in charge of the repairs when things need to get fixed. There are some jobs that are quite easy. A lot of them we can just do ourselves, even if you have quite a basic DIY knowledge. There are other things that will be hard for us to do ourselves. We don’t want to cause more damage and make things worse. It will cost more money to repair and take up so much more time. So when do we know when to call in experts to help us?

As a general rule, we can do the following things ourselves:

Painting and Decorating
Bleeding Radiators
Clearing Toilets and Drains
Fixtures and Fittings around the house
Making your house more secure
Insulating your loft
Repair holes in the wall
Fitting your own flooring

These are all tasks that are on the more simple rating, according to They don’t need any specialised equipment and they aren’t complicated. These tasks are all things that shouldn’t happen too often either. How often do we need to paint our walls? Hopefully, it is only once every few years. It helps your home to look good but isn’t anything major if it doesn’t happen for a while. I think that is the guidance that we should follow when deciding if we should fix it ourselves or not. If it can be left for a little while longer, then it is most likely something that you can fix yourself. Can you go a little longer before putting that shelving up in your bedroom? Can you go a little longer without sanding down the bannister?

Then there are the things that we can’t leave for long. If you have a leak from the kitchen sink, can you leave it for a couple of days? Unless you want a flooded kitchen, then it is a good idea to call in a professional. You will want to call in a reliable plumber, like the guys at

Think of the other things that could happen around the house, that you can’t just leave. Pests are a big problem. Unless you have the specialised chemicals and equipment, you will need to call in a professional pest control company. You don’t want to put that off, particularly with children in the home. You don’t want to put off having your dishwasher repaired if it is leaking and not draining right. Call a dishwasher repair man. If you have issues with your roof and leaks when it rains, make sure you call a professional roofer. Not only will it solve the problem quickly, but it will be much safer for them to do it too. A job like that needs special equipment and ladders that the majority of us just don’t have.

Getting Engaged: It's All About the Ring

Getting engaged is a very special time in anybody's life. What could be more exciting? The love of your life has asked you to be theirs, forever (or maybe you did the proposing) and now you’re going to get married! How wonderful! So, then comes the engagement ring. Will, you go for something showy or a band that’s a little more subtle. It’s a piece of jewellery that holds extraordinary significance and is a symbol of your promise to marry. You’re going to wear it forever, so it’s something you’re going to hold close to our heart. But how much do you actually know about engagement rings? There’s more to that band you’ll be wearing than you might think!

The word Diamond derives from the Greek word “adamant.” The meaning is significant - it means invincible or steadfast. If you think about it, it’s really quite appropriate for this token of love. Diamonds are believed to be indestructible, but despite the fact the are exceptionally hard, they can be brittle. So it still pays to be careful with such a precious gem. Don’t go hitting it with a hammer to test it!

Engagement rings were introduced as a tradition in Austria. All the way back in 1477, the Archduke Maximilian gave his sweetheart a beautiful gold ring. It was resplendent with a diamond setting as a symbol of his unwavering love and commitment.
Do you know why the engagement ring is traditionally worn on the third finger of the left hand? People in ancient times believed that this digit had a special vein, called Vena Amoris - also known as the Vein of love. This vein runs straight, yep, you guessed it, to the heart. There is some sort of science behind some folklore, after all!
However, this isn’t the same everywhere. Like everything else in life, different people and cultures have different ways of doing things. Countries such as Russia, India and Germany the right hand to wear the token of impending marriage.

You can now get man made diamonds made out of you and your intended's hair. Entwined together for all eternity, technology is able to reproduce the wonders of nature. It’s a fascinating process and a fantastically romantic idea. There are different diamond options, you can choose from, for example, you can choose from a range of different colours and carats. They are more affordable than you might think, and make an interesting twist on a conventional diamond. They’re certainly a real conversation starter and icebreaker; that’s without a doubt!

If you’re looking to get as much bang for your buck as you can, then consider shopping for your engagement ring online. Online stores don't have the same high overhead as physical retailers on the high street, so it pays to shop around. You can often save up to a fifth if you’re savvy, which will leave you extra cash to spend on your big day. Getting married is an expensive business, so if you can save money without sacrificing quality? Then you’re on to a wedding winner already!

5 Things That Will Change In Your Life When You Have A Child!

Having a baby is a really exciting time for you and your partner. Before you have kids, you just have to worry about yourself, and your partner. But when a baby comes along, you will worry 24/7 about your child. A baby is a huge responsibility and therefore, you should be ready for your life to change when it comes along. You will definitely appreciate your mum and dad more when you realise everything they did for you! Here are five ways your life will change.

Your home

Your home will change dramatically when you have a baby. The spare room which might have been a guest bedroom or a study will suddenly turn into a nursery. And of course, this room will be filled with Furniture, clothes, and all the babies toys. It’s not just the nursery which will be different in your home. You will have to baby proof all wires, plugs and remove sharp objects which they may knock into as they grow up. Their toys are also bound to end up everywhere so be prepared for this.

Your car

The car that you spent all your hard earned cash on will likely have to go if it doesn’t have four doors, and room for the baby’s stuff in the back. You need to make sure you have a family car which will have plenty of space for your bundle. You will need to be able to get the car seat in and out of the car easily so the more room, the better.

Your holidays

Going on exotic breaks abroad would have been a highlight before you were expecting. But when you have a little one, you need to consider the airline flight time, and whether your bundle will be able to deal with it. Any breaks away will cost more when you have a child, and you will have to start considering going away to ‘family friendly’ hotels. As discussed here, if you do go away without your child, you and your partner will spend the majority of the time worrying about them.

Your friends

Your friends are likely to change when you have a child. You will be inundated with visitors when the baby first arrives. But only good friends will stick around when you have a baby. When you are cancelling plans all the time, they may disappear quickly. You will likely start to have fellow mummy friends who have children around the same age. These are likely to be friends you make at baby groups, and will understand what you are going through.

Your relationship

You and your partner’s relationship will definitely change when you have a baby. It can bring you closer together as you have made this beautiful bundle of joy. However, with you spending more time concentrating on the baby, your partner may feel left out. Make sure you make time for each other and try and go on date nights.

Here are some other things that will change in your life when you have a baby. And it’s not all bad; there is a beautiful little person whom you both created and will love unconditionally.

4 Places You Need To Go To Meet New Friends!

When you are busy with work and home life, it can be really hard to make new friends. By the time you get home, you will be tired and will likely just watch some TV, or read a book. But being social is important for our happiness, and confidence. Our friends from school and college can often drift away when everyone moves away. You begin to like different things and will have less in common with them. Therefore, you should try and meet some new friends in your local area. Here are four places where you can go to meet new friends.

A traditional way to meet people is in a pub. Making friends can be a scary prospect, and a drink or two can ease any pressure you may feel about talking to strangers. If they have games such as pool or darts, it’s an excellent way to connect with people. See if anyone fancies a game and you can start chatting.

It’s a dangerous territory, but online can be a great place to meet new friends. If you are a fan of a certain sport or celebrity, they have fan pages where you can chat with other people who are fans of the same thing. Websites such as can allow you to find loads of groups which you could join in your local area. Talking online is also good if you are not very confident, as it will allow you to speak more openly to others. Social media is also a great place to meet new friends. On sites such as Twitter and Facebook, you can see who else follows the same things as you, and you could start chatting with them. Just remember, there are some crazy people online who might be pretending to be someone else (Think Catfish) so be very careful.

Classes are a great way to meet new friends. Check your local area for classes which you wouldn’t mind trying. An exercise class is a great place to meet new people, and you can get fit. You could also try social dancing classes such as Salsa or Ballroom Dancing. You could be partnered up with someone who could be a new friend in the future. A hobby class such as acting or cooking is also a great way to meet friends and learn a new fun skill.

Your work is a great place to start when meeting new friends. If you often work on your own, find out whether the company does any social events that you could attend. If they are doing any charity activities such as a run, or a bake sale, you could ask if you could help. Also, you could suggest going for a drink with your colleague. You might be surprised that they would love some company after work.

Here are a further 50 places to go to meet new friends. Try and pluck up the confidence as friends can really make a difference to your life.

What to do on Rainy Days With The Kids

It’s raining, and you’ve got a houseful of kids. What do you do? No, you can’t get possibly put on Frozen yet again. Seriously, as wonderful as that film is, it tends to get tedious after the 19th million repeat. See also, Despicable me and just about any film that's been popular in the last twenty years. How many parents have been driven to the edge by the refrains of “Let it Go” we'll never know, but enough is enough!

So how can you keep your kids amused when it’s just too miserable to go outside. If your kids are still on their Easter break, then this might be something you’re dealing with right this very minute. Considering it is meant to be spring, the weather still isn’t all that great. And it’s a long old vacation when you have a few kids in tow. The last thing you want is them getting bored; that’s just a license for them to start playing up. And let's face it, you’re going to need a lot of patience of the next week or two, so it really does pay to keep the little ones as busy as you can!

Why not combine learning with cooking? The best thing about having a pizza party is you get to eat the fruits of your labour at the end. Knock up a batch of pizza dough and let them get creative with toppings! If you’re feeling lazy or out of ingredients, pitta bread makes a smart alternative. You can use odds and ends cheese you have left in the fridge. The less food waste you produce, the better for the environment, so you’re also saving the planet, too!

If your offspring love arts and crafts, then why not have a making day. It’s a good idea to be prepared for this one. You can usually get any findings or extra bits and pieces you might need at a craft or bead store. Why not try making some jewellery with letter beads, and your children will also have something unique to keep at the end of your fun day. It’s also a very good idea to name a few extra items - always useful for a birthday or a visit from Granny!

Take the opportunity to get green fingered even if the garden is out of bounds. Potting up seeds and plants can teach your kids lots about how things grow. It may even make the be more likely to eat their veggies if they have helped nurture the from seed. Making sure your kids now where food comes from will help them understand more about life and nature.

Have you got any brilliant ideas for keeping kids amused on rainy days? It’s not always easy, but if you’re smart, you can even turn things like tidying up into a fun game that will also see off an hour or two. The days can be long when you’re stuck indoors, but don't despair. Sunny days will soon be here again!

EWWWWW! GROSS!!! Help promote concentration with GROSS items in the new Find It Game #Review

All of us Mommas know two things for certain about our kids... 1, they are ADORABLE... and 2, they are GROSS!!! Hehehehe! We deal with a lot of gross things that come from our kids. While we take it all in stride, they think it is all HILARIOUS! When I got the email about this game, I literally Laughed Out Loud. Like Hysterically LOL'd!!!!
I knew my kids would LOVE this!!!!

Is that a “booger” next to the “road kill”? “Ear wax” on top of the “scab”??? Feel the spiders creep between your sheets, as bad breath permeates the air … All in our new “Eww, Gross”! version of the Find It® Game!
In the newest edition of Find It®, search for 40 Gross items in a sea of colored pellets. Upset your friends and show them what you’ve found!

Let’s face it - kids just love gross things. While parents love the attention benefits of Find It®. “Eww, Gross”! offers the best of both worlds in one fun package.

Package includes the Find It® Eww Gross game, playing cards and the Ways to play. An educational game for 1 or 2 players, age 6 and up.

I could not wait for them to open this!!

They laughed hysterically as I read the list of things to look for!!! They could not wait to start searching! I could not have gotten this out of the box fast enough for them!

Look at those looks of concentration on their faces!!!!!

What exactly is a Find It® Game?  Part game, part gift, parent company Identity Games calls it a “contained adventure.” It’s a portable treasure hunt that you can take with you in the car, to the classroom, grandma’s house, or just keep out in your room/office.

In every version of the Find It® game, you will find brightly colored pellets plus 40 or so small items that follow a specific theme.  The items are listed on top of the game for easy reference.  Some are easy to find; others a bit harder.   Twist, spin, shake or tap the filled container to spot the hidden items - in alphabetical order, smallest to largest, fastest to slowest, etc.   It sounds easy, but it’s a challenge for any age - there are so many ways to play a Find It® Game!

In “Eww Gross”, the focus is on everyday items that spark a reaction of disgust. Then again, kids love discussing the attributes of smelly sneakers or farts (the letters F, A, R, T are hidden in this new game)!

HAHAHA!!!! They found barf!!!!!!!! I was cracking up laughing at their reactions and was SO happy I caught this one in a picture!!!

Big Sister even got in on the action!!! She was up in her room and heard them down here yelling and giggling and ran down to see what they were up to ;) She immediately wanted to hunt too!!!

Part game, part activity, this “contained adventure” is a portable treasure hunt.  This newest version will get a reaction as soon as the 40+ word list is read. Expect to hear “eww” and “gross” when reading the words “scab” or “smelly armpits.” Again, don’t tell the kids, but playing this game will encourage focus and concentration, key traits for a healthy future.

My kids LOVE it!!! After the kids went to bed... I was sitting on the couch searching!!! There is a "Mystery item" to find... and it is GLITTER POOP!!! We have been searching like crazy for the poop! They spent hours playing with it last night... and their feet barely hit the floor this morning before they had it out again.

Here are some of the items inside the game....

Here's a couple as we found them....

Give Your Orange Chicken a Lift with Wonderful Halos! #Recipe + #Giveaway

Thank you to Wonderful Halos for providing me with product to facilitate my post. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

Was the Easter bunny good to you? He certainly knew where to find us this year. All of the members of my family received their own little Easter baskets on Easter Sunday, including me! The Easter bunny dropped off a basket of Wonderful Halos, and I couldn't have been more excited! I have been craving Halos like you wouldn't believe during my pregnancy. I have a pretty serious sweet tooth, but instead of craving cookies or brownies, I have been craving these sweet fruits, instead. In fact, the cravings for them are so strong that I sometimes wake up and have a couple of them at 3 am!

Delicious, nutritious Wonderful Halos- one of our favorite snacks, and a staple for our kitchen.

In season November through April, Halos are easy to pack in lunches, great to share at kid’s activities and sporting events, and make a healthy snack choice any time of the day.

Wonderful Halos mandarins are:
·         A sweet, seedless and easy to peel snack that’s a healthy alternative to fatty foods
·         About 50 calories delivering 45 percent of the recommended daily value of vitamin C

Wonderful Halos are also great to use in everyday cooking, and in healthy recipes for the family. One of our favorite weeknight meals is Orange Chicken, and I was excited to have fresh Wonderful Halos on hand to use the last time we made this dish.

Orange Chicken

1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 cup 2 tablespoons cornstarch, divided
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon sesame seeds
1 green onion, thinly sliced
For the marinade
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice- we used the juice from Wonderful Halos
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup distilled white vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 teaspoon Sriracha, or more, to taste
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Cooking Instructions

To make the marinade, whisk together chicken broth, orange juice, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, orange zest, Sriracha, ginger and white pepper in a large bowl.
In a gallon size Ziploc bag or large bowl, combine chicken and 2/3 cup of the marinade; marinate for at least 30 minutes, turning the bag occasionally. Drain the chicken from the marinade, discarding the marinade.

Heat remaining marinade in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and stir in 2 tablespoons cornstarch combined with 2 tablespoons water. Cook, stirring frequently, until thickened about 1-2 minutes; keep warm.

Working one at a time, dip the chicken into the eggs, then dredge in remaining 1 cup cornstarch, pressing to coat.

Heat vegetable oil in a large saucepan. Working in batches, add chicken and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate; discard excess oil.
Serve chicken immediately, tossed or drizzled with the marinade, garnished with sesame seeds and green onion, if desired.

The chicken is the star of this yummy dish! Serve it up with sticky rice and steamed broccoli!

For a quick pick-me-up snack, Wonderful Halos are the perfect naturally sweet alternative to sugary treats.

Kids love Halos because the sweet and juicy mandarins fit perfectly into their small hands. Parents love to pack Halos in school lunchboxes because they are healthy and an excellent source of vitamin C for their kids.
