I love traveling- the new experiences, foods, cultures, and even history. Yet, my budget, bank account, and time don't always like to permit me to go off on exotic adventures. While visiting Israel is on my bucket list, for now, it remains a faraway distant goal in the future. 

Back to School means less time to take adventures and travel across the world, but that doesn't mean the learning stops! So when I learned about Artza Subscription boxes, I immediately became excited. Even though I can't physically travel to the Holy Land right now, I can experience a taste of its culture here in my own home! 

Artza started in March 2020, when the borders of Israel closed due to They aim to bring the places from the Bible and Jesus' story to us.. in full living color, with taste included! I am absolutely thankful that creative people found ways to sustain themselves and their communities even while travel borders may have been closed!  

Artza is a quarterly subscription service that offers creative foods, goods, and adventures following the footsteps of Jesus. The word "Artza" is Hebrew and means "towards the land." Each box is a journey towards the land of Israel through it's contents.  The mission is to bring each of us a taste of the "land" and all of its blessings. I don't know about you, but I'm in need of that hope and promise that comes out of Israel's rich history. 

Currently, the box is geared towards the region of Galilee. Galilee has such a rich history in Jesus' footsteps- from his home in Nazareth to his ministry in Capernaum, and even his time spent on the sea of Galilee. 

This Galilee box is full of wonderful artisan products to take our senses and taste buds on a journey through Galilee. Each product also arrives with the story of its creator, the artisan who developed it. Included is information about the region.. and even the local language! 

In this quarter's box, I received:

- Handmade Lemon-Lime Body Scrub by Michal Soaps, located in the industrial center of Galilee. Michal's products are all-natural cosmetics that are crafted by hand. 

- 2 hand-dipped candles from Safed Candles. Located in Tzfat, these beautiful handmade candles are surely to shine bright and bring light into our lives and homes. 

- An hand-made ceramic bowl from Even Gallery. The artist followed in his father's footsteps and learned the art of ceramics. This pretty bowl has a fish and bread loaf symbol inside, reminding us of Jesus' feeding many and the story of the Loaves and Fishes. 

- Olive Oil from Sindyanna of the Galilee, located in Cana. This olive oil company was established in 1996 and is the only certified fair-trade company in Israel. The boutique strives to employ women and Arabs, creating vast economic opportunities for many in the region. Fair-trade and fair- employment are always wins for me, so this product excites me greatly!

- Chocolate Nut Spread from Tzuf

- Seasoning from "The Spice Road Farm" in Bethlehem of Galilee. This seasoning can be used in many things, but a hummus recipe is also included! 

- A card game from Family Nature Games. Learn about Jesus' journey and follow in his footsteps!

- Included in the premium subscriptions: The Holy Land Mosaic has provided us with instructions on how to make our own mosaic that is a replica of what adorned churches from Jesus' time in the region.

I especially love how, not only can you experience the Holy Land via taste, smell, and sight.. you can learn about the stories of each of these companies. Supporting locally-owned businesses is something I love doing, especially when traveling, so I was excited to hear about the journey of those creators and artisans included in this box.
