Clarkson Avenue Crumb Cakes + #Giveaway #MBPSummer20

Thank you to Clarkson Avenue Crumb Cakes for this delicious Campfire Crumb Cake! All opinions are my own!

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting friends who reside in South Carolina.  Often, I try to take along a token of appreciation for those putting up with me for a few days- after all, they are housing me, feeding me, and entertaining me! This trip, I was excited to be able to share Clarkson Avenue Crumb Cake's Cake of the Month, the "Campfire" cake with my Charleston friends.

Clarkson Avenue Crumb Cake Co is a New York based business, owned by mother and son team of Susan and James Walsh. Susan's original family recipe remains the basis for all of their wonderful creations. Clarkson offers a variety of favors, including the original classic, such as blueberry, salted caramel, and Raspberry. They also offer a gluten free version!  Full crumb cakes are available in 8 x 8 size or in a 12-pack of  individual servings called Crumbkins.  All of the cakes are made locally with natural ingredients, are preservative free and are shipped directly to your door.

Never tried a crumb cake? The cakes have a thin layer of moist cake and are finished with a crumb topping. The crumb topping can range from sugar crumbs to graham cracker crumbs, depending upon the baker's delight. A nod from German History, the American version of crumb cake was created back in the 50's and 60's for late afternoon social hour (coffee/tea time) and served as a light dessert- not sweet enough to be dessert cake, but not the same consistency as coffee cake. Crumb Cake is sturdier, not as flaky or fluffy as dessert cakes, such as birthday cakes.

For those who have never had crumb cake and are used to sweet fluffier cakes, they might think it airs on the dryer side- because most of the cake is the Crumb piece and not the cake piece.

Clarkson Avenue sent me the Campfire Crumb Cake as well as a 12 pack of individual Crumbkins for me to try. Y'all know, I love sweets. I try to moderate my sweets, have been doing better about exercising and eating during Covid, but I still can't resist a good piece of cake!

The Campfire Cake contains a chocolate base cake filled with a marshmallow creme, a layer of chocolate ganache, and graham cracker crumb. Arriving sealed and wrapped in it's box, the cake was wonderful delicious! Upon arrival, I also had a recommendation in the box to store my cakes in the fridge to preserve freshness, especially in southern humidity!

The Campfire Crumb cake did not disappoint me!

My friends commented that they thought this particular Campfire Cake was dry, but I loved it myself! For them, they ended up doctoring their cake with whipped cream and ate it up.
I love sweet moist cakes, but I also like my dryer coffee cakes as well. Although I didn't taste much of the marshmallow creme, I did love the chocolate and graham cracker components of the cake. I did try mine with and without whipped creme and ultimately decided I liked it better plain. This cake last a few days with the 3 of us, eating in moderation as well. If you have a large family, or like generous helpings of cake, then it would definitely go quickly for you!

I was also sent a pack of 12 Crumbkins. Not being a large breakfast eater, these cakes have been the perfect size for a morning "snack" as I drink my coffee. The pack included 3 Classics, 3 Raspberry, 3 Blueberry, and 3 Salted Caramel cakes. I have to say- the raspberry was my favorite! The salted caramel was good, but I didn't enjoy it much for breakfast- it was more suited to an afternoon or evening snack. Each Crumpkin had it's cake base, a layer of preserves (if Raspberry or Blueberry) and a wonderful crumb topping! I highly enjoyed the Crumbkins!

If you are looking for a great treat to take with you when visiting friends, family, or just want a mid-afternoon snack available for when your best friend decides to stop by, Clarkson Avenue Crumb cakes are for you! I would highly recommend you check them out!
