10 Car Cleaning Hacks to Try this Weekend

Winter may not be over just yet, but mother nature is already giving many folks across the country a glorious taste of spring. No one really knows if or when the weather will turn cold again, so it's a great idea to take advantage of the warm temperatures and sunshine while it lasts. A warm day is a perfect time to give your car a little TLC. If you haven't done so already, it's a great time to check out some easy car cleaning hacks that'll have you whistling a happy tune in no time!

If you're ready to show your car a little love, check out these clever ways to give it a deep clean...

Wipe Down Your Dash and Upholstery with Coffee Filters

I know, I know- but it's not that far-fetched of an idea. Just grab a couple of clean coffee filters and gently run them over your dashboard and seats. You'll have a dust-free car in no time! I like to keep a few coffee filters in the glove box for quick wipe downs. Just wipe and toss- couldn't be easier.

Add a Little Hair Conditioner to Your Car Wash

Most hair conditioners contain lanolin, which will add a shine boost to your regular wash! You can also find lanolin in baby product aisles at your local drugstore. Many breastfeeding mothers use lanolin as a soothing product when they are nursing new babies. You could even add a little lanolin directly to your car cleaning cloth.

Say Goodbye to Bugs with Cooking Spray

You know those pesky dead bugs that get stuck in your front bumper or grill? Simply spray the area with a non-stick cooking spray and wipe them away with a microfiber cloth. Bye-bye, bugs! Another trick- use a dryer sheet to wipe those bug away!

Clean Your Headlights with Toothpaste

Okay, so not just any toothpaste will work for this trick, but looking for a baking-soda based or boosted toothpaste. Rub the paste over your headlights and gently scrub with a microfiber cloth. The baking soda will loosen grime and give your headlights a bright, clean look.

Use Small Paintbrushes to Clean Hard to Reach Interior Places

You know those little foam paintbrushes that kids often use for painting or art projects? We have quite the collection of them at my house because they're easy to hold and they're super cheap. I keep one of those in my car, and use it to clean the air vents, as well as other tight spaces that I can't reach with the coffee filter or cleaning cloth. Works like a charm!

Clean Your Windows with Baby Wipes

Most baby wipes contain a small percentage of alcohol, which makes them super convenient for keeping in the car to clean your windows. Keep a pack in your center console and just use them for quick wipe-downs. The alcohol in the wipes will help to keep your windows clean and streak-free. They might even work better than your standard glass cleaner and a cleaning cloth!

Clean Cup Holders with Old Socks

This one may seem silly, but I actually do a lot of household cleaning with old socks. Take an old cup, and then secure an old sock around the opening with a rubber band. Use a spritz of Windex to dampen the sock, and then insert the cup into the cup holder and twist it back and forth. The gunk will come right up!

Make a Homemade Air Freshener

Place a few drops of your favorite essential oil onto a popsicle stick or clothespin and insert it into one of the vents in your car. Easiest air freshener in the world!

Use a Lint Roller to Remove Stubborn Animal Hair

It's a lot of fun to bring pets along for car rides, but if you have one that sheds, they can certainly leave quite the mess behind. Roll your upholstery with a lint roller. You can pick one up at your local Dollar Tree and just keep it in the car for quick touch-ups.

Use Command Hooks to Keep Things off the Floor

So, this one isn't really a cleaning hack, but your car will be much more organized! Ad a couple of small Command hooks to various places around your vehicle's interior. You can use them to hand light jackets, small bags, lunchboxes, etc. The less that's rolling around on the floor, the better!

These tips will have your car looking great in no time!
