AVON and Curves Pedometer #Review and #Giveaway: Spotlight Sponsor Vanessa Wigglesworth

Just Walk

The “secret” to weight loss is putting out more than you take in. AKA, burn more calories than you eat. So raise your hand if you know exactly, how many calories you burn each and every day? Anyone… anyone… Bueller? That’s what I though, and even with all the weight loss apps and gadgets out there it is pretty hard to remember exactly how many calories you burn during your every day routines. Lucky for you, spotlight sponsor Vanessa Wigglesworth has a new gadget to help you get an approximate calorie count for something you probably do every single day and don’t even think twice about when counting burned calories…

The AVON Curves Pedometer. Count your steps and burn those calories!! Walking is something each of us probably does every single day and unless you’re purposely going for a walk for exercise you probably don’t think about it burning calories. Every step you take, no matter if it is for a workout or to get to the other end of the room, burns calories. Honestly, it probably burns more than you think, and the AVON Curves pedometer can help you track those calories.

Ready to clip on

Small and easy to use...

Easy open back to change batteries.

...and a handy clip!

Fresh outta the box!

Want to know how many calories each step burns?

Get up right now and take 17 steps. Just 17 normal, regular, every day steps. I’ll give you a minute….

Just 17 simple steps...

Just 17 simple steps...

Just 17 simple steps...
Ok, you just burned approximately 1 calorie.

Just 17 simple steps is 1 calorie!!

Not hard right? 17 regular steps and boom, 1 calorie gone. On a normal basis you burn about 100 calories per 1000 steps. An average woman takes a little over 5000 steps a day (men take just over 7000)… that’s 500 calories you burn just by walking around! And I know you busy moms probably take even more than that chasing your little ones around.

Instructions come in many languages

My AVON Curves pedometer from Vanessa is simple to use and extremely helpful!
Zeroed out and ready to walk!

You just clip it on your pants, set the counters to 0, and forget it till the end of the day. The AVON Curves pedometer counts all your steps, counts your calories burned, and counts how many miles (or kilometers for our friends outside the USA) you’ve walked during the day. It’s awesome! You’ll be amazed at how much you move!

Want it? Buy it!

You can get your Curves pedometer along with tons of other Curves and AVON products from Vanessa. Each catalog has tons of other awesome AVON stuff just waiting for you to order. I don’t wear much makeup but when I do I LOVE the Mark line from AVON.

Get Back into the Kitchen with Tools by Ecolution #Review

Hey MBP followers, Vanessa here! I am running around like a mom who has a million and one different things to do today. How many of you can relate to that? One of those million and one things is getting a healthy dinner on the table! Tonight, we had Chicken Paprikash made with some leftover “Kickin’ Crockpot Chicken” from the other night.  I love stretching our food budget by using leftovers to create an entirely different meal!

Tonight, I got to use my brand new Ecolution™ Artistry 11in. Fry Pan to make dinner. So now, in addition to the happiness I felt making Chicken Paprikash, which  is a family favorite, I was downright giddy because I got to use my new favorite kitchen utensil!

I was thrilled to get to work with Ecolution™! I love being in the kitchen, and if it weren’t for my dread of speaking in front of large groups of people, I am convinced that I could be the next Rachael Ray! Well, there are probably a few other reasons I am not the next Rachael Ray, but I do rock in the kitchen. Because I love cooking so much, I have a rather large collection of pots and pans, of various brands. I am thinking though, my collection is about to receive an Ecolution™ makeover!

My new favorite!

       And the bottom!

So obviously, not everyone gets as nerdy as I can get, especially when it comes to cookware. However, when this frying pan came, I think my two sous-chefs may have been just as enthusiastic about receiving it  as I was. Our 6 year old quickly questioned if we could use it to make dinner that night, and uttered the words “oh bummer”  when I told her we had to wait until tonight.

Our new pan at work!

Aside from being pretty nice to look at, this fry pan has other benefits. I love how quickly the heat is distributed throughout the pan and I really loved not having to grab a pot holder to avoid burning my hand on a hot handle, since this pan offers a “squeezable stay-cool silicone” handle. The pan is dishwasher safe, which is a huge plus. I am going to stick with handwashing it though, because I never want to run the risk of having it be in the dishwasher when I need to use it next.

Getting to Know You Thursdays: Cold in Indiana

Thanks for dropping by to get to know the MBP team of bloggers a little better. This week, we're catching up with Sr. Contributor, Steph Adler

Good Eats- What's For Dinner Tonight?
The kids will have something simple-quick sandwich with fruit and yogurt. Adam and I are having some salad and frozen pizza. My husband plays basketball until 9 every Thursday, so it is harder to eat as a family which is a bummer.
Whatcha Reading?
Just finished Gone Girl--highly recommend it. I am currently reading a YA called Premeditated. It is okay, just something simple to read and pass the time. I need to pick up Orange is the New Black, it is on hold for me at the library.
Listening to Anything Good?
Continuing with the Frozen Soundtrack, it is really great and the kids love it. We also listen to a lot of Radio Disney and Hits 1 on the Sirius Radio.
Whatcha Been Watching?
This week we have caught up with The Walking Dead and our normal TV shows. It is nice that they take a break during the Olympics. We caught quite a bit of the winter sports-my favorite was snuggling and watching "Love Skate" with S. Her term for couples figure skating.

I Dreamed a Dream of...
I have finally been sleeping through the night. C is in her big girl bed--YAY! My dreams have been really random, last nights involved herds of deer in our backyard. We do get them quite regularly so that is not weird, but in my dreams we had hundreds just jumping around and walking about.
What I'm Lovin' this Week...
I got a new dress and shoes for a fundraiser we are going to on Saturday night. I am so proud of myself, we have been running since the fall and really working on our health. I am down TWO dress sizes!!!! I haven't been in this size since before I had kids.
I am so Done With...
Winter, Winter, Winter. Did I mention Winter? We have had over 50 inches of snow already, the third snowiest our city has ever had. They are calling for a dusting tomorrow and Saturday and possibly 6-10 inches on Sunday. I am so done with WINTER.

Silliest Thing this Week...
Baby C playing with S and B. They are so silly and fun and truly love each other. The older two love making baby laugh and giggle which in turn makes all of us laugh and giggle.
What I'm Looking Forward to...
Our Mardi Gras fundraiser on Saturday night. It is for B's school and is a great time. Last year we won some money in the reverse raffle and also bid on some fun items. Can't wait to see what this year will bring!

Thanks for catching up with me this week!
I'd love to hear how you've been doing this week, too! Leave your answer to one of the questions listed above in a comment, if you feel like it!

Have a great Thursday!

Winter Warmup with City Creek Candle Review and Giveaway

Winter is still in full swing around Central Indiana and with another snow storm on the weekend forecast, I am really dreaming of warm and tropical places. My husband and I, along with our best friends, are planning a trip for late fall to somewhere beachy so I have something to help with my dreams. I also have been using a great product in our house with a great scent to also assist in setting the mood.

City Creek Candles was created to provide candles and wax melts that are made with the finest fragrance, wax, and wicks available. They are named after their hometown mountain stream from the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City and candles are poured in the US.
Many of you know that companies have chosen to "go flameless" for a number of reasons, safety being first and foremost. City Creek Candles is a sister line to Candle Warmers Etc., which was created on the principle of safe candle usage. In 2001, the founder of Candle Warmers Etc. brought the first plate-style warmer out in response to a neighbor's own home loss due to a fire (started by a candle flame). While City Creek Candles offers both flame and non-flameless candles, the company's overall philosophy is of practicing safe candle sense, you can visit here for many other candle safety resources.
I worked with Kim, who offered to send me my choice of one Candle Warmer from the Candle Warmers Etc. Line and one wax melt from the City Creek Candles Line. I quickly went to work looking through the online catalogs to see what would be the best options for our house. I first browsed the Candle Warmers catalog to pick a warmer that would fit best in our kitchen. I love having candles in the kitchen because our house is pretty open and the scents travel into our sitting room, breakfast area, laundry, and dining room. I was blown away by all the unique warmers, I had a really hard time selecting just one.
I really liked this:
While this is an awesome one, I knew it wouldn't really work in the kitchen, so I kept looking. I easily found something perfect.
I then browsed the City Creek Candles catalog to find the perfect wax melt to go along with the warmer I had chosen. I knew the scents would be a hard choice too, because they have such an assortment, from citrus to floral to woodsy, they have it. I told you I was needing some warm inspiration so I chose something from the "Sea & Sand" fragrance. I finally let Kim know what would be the best products for what I was looking for, she checked the stock and had it shipped out quickly.
My City Creek Candles package is here!
I let B help open the package up because he was so interested in what it could be. I did prep him that it was not something a 7 year old boy would really enjoy, but that mommy would be happy. He quickly discovered that I was correct.
The Plug In Fragrance Warmer retails for $9.99, which is a really affordable price for something that can be used over and over again with different wax melts. It features a ceramic body, warming bulb that quickly melts one ounce of wax to emit the fragrances, and a plug assembly for quick on/off. It has no flame, no smoke, and no soot, making it safe and a great choice for all homes.
The Wax Melts come in both 2 ounce or 4 ounce options, retailing for $3.49 and $5.49. Again, these affordable prices are a huge hit and are competitive to what you can find in retail stores. The wax is scented and comes in a variety of choices.
The Pebblestone Warmer is a great shade of red that perfectly matched the tiles in our backsplash. It has some simple, yet eye catching detail in the ceramic design as well. I am very impressed with it and even my husband commented on how nice it looked.
The Tahitian Sunrise scented wax melts are amazing. It is a great combination of tropical fruits and coconut. It is not overpowering but gives a great feel to being somewhere warm and beachy, exactly what I am needing. The 2 ounce size has 6 individual chunks to use, they last quite awhile too.
The light brightly shines through the small holes and provides a nightlight sense too.

A quick video review too!

A Fun and Exciting Addition to Daddy and Company

We have featured a few different products from a great company, newly renamed as Daddy & Company. They are constantly growing and improving their brand and want to share their newest information with their fans.
Most recently, Daddy & Company has developed a new web series called "My Life As A Dad" which will feature new celebrity dads discussing fatherhood each week.

My Life As A Dad is the first show of its kind to delve into the lives of celebrity and professional athlete dads to get the answers to important questions like: how they feel about being a dad; what their parenting philosophies are; how they balance their family life with their professional life, and in some cases how they relate their unique upbringing to being a dad today.

We want to know what their favorite activity to engage with their child is; their best piece of parenting advice, and even their first thought following their child’s birth.

Watch, listen, learn, and enjoy the show.

How cool is this!?!

The Perfect Personalized Kitchen Accessory from The Sedulous Sisters #Review

Part of MBP's St. Patrick's Day Guide

I have been having a blast, finding cute little green accents to decorate my house with for St. Patrick's Day. Though I'm not Irish, my hubby is, and I think he secretly likes to see all of these little green and Irish accents popping up throughout our home. Green is actually my favorite color, and one of my favorites to decorate it. We painted our dining room green a couple of years ago (it's a sage green), which made it flow very nicely into our pale yellow kitchen with green and black accents. Since I'm not Irish, it would seem silly for me to put up a bunch of 'Kiss me, I'm Irish' type decor, so I've set out to find green themed items that I can use everyday!

I was fortunate to find The Sedulous Sisters a few weeks ago when I began to put our St. Patrick's Day Guide together. The Sedulous Sisters is owned and operated by Grace N., a middle school language arts teacher, who runs her Etsy shop with her sister. 'Sedulous' means 'showing dedication' to something, and what a fitting title for this wonderful business. Grace and her sister really have a knack for crafting, and creating beautiful works of art. I was drawn to their shop after I browsed some of their creations, and knew that I just had to reach out to these fine ladies.

I connected with Grace, who was excited about sharing some of the creations with the MBP community. Grace very kindly offered to make and send me a piece from their shop that I had my eye on- a gorgeous Monogrammed Chevron Spoon rest, which was fully customizable and hand painted. Grace and I had some conversation about the color green that would be used, as she explained she had several different shades of green available. I described what might best match my kitchen, and gave the initial for the monogram, and Grace went to work.

Here's a photo of the spoon rest 'in progress,' before the glaze went on...

Grace sent me a few photos of the spoon rest after it had been hand painted, but before it had been glazed with the clear coating. This was like a little teaser for me, and I was so excited when I saw it! It looked so beautiful, and it wasn't even finished yet! I couldn't wait to see what it would look like in my own kitchen!

My package from Grace and The Sedulous Sisters...

A few days later, the mail carrier dropped off a package, and I had a feeling that it might be my spoon rest! I hurriedly opened it up, and found a piece of paper on top, which had instructions from the sisters. The paper had a little thank you note on it, information with what a customer ought to do if their item arrives damaged or broken, a coupon code for my next purchase, and a detachable coupon to share with a friend- how clever and kind!

My package was quite well-protected... my product is in here somewhere!

The actual spoon rest was protected further by heavy duty bubble wrap- a smart way to pack and ship something so very delicate!

Underneath the bubble wrap, was tissue paper... and the tissue paper covered my spoon rest!

It seemed like a lot of unpacking and unwrapping, but to be truthful, the very clever Sedulous Sisters did well to protect my item from being damaged. I really appreciate that they went the extra mile to make sure that my item wouldn't be damaged when it arrived on my doorstep. Once the package leaves the hands of the crafter, it's up to that super duper packing to protect the item while it's being handled by a bunch of other people during shipping. Thankfully, my mail carrier is awesome and I seldom worry about damaged items.

Here's the big reveal... my customized monogrammed spoon rest by The Sedulous Sisters!

I was so very excited to unwrap the spoon rest and take a good look at it. The coloring of it was so stunning, really brilliant, as I looked at it and it caught the sunlight. Grace couldn't have matched the green color better! It's pretty spot on with the green we use in our home, and I knew it was going to look so pretty sitting atop my stove.

Our customized 'W' looks great, too!

The big, black 'W' really stands out against the green and super white chevron background. In my home decorating, I try not to get to trendy with the decor, because I never know how long that rend will be in style. As for the chevron pattern, it's everywhere- from clothing and accessories to decor and bedding, so I really think it's here to stay for quite a while. Even if it goes out of style, I'm still displaying my spoon rest from The Sedulous Sisters... it's so beautiful and I love it!

Here's a look at the back of the spoon rest, which is also glazed.

The base of the spoon rest has a little hand painted note, as well!

I couldn't wait to get the ceramic spoon rest into my kitchen, and as I picked it up, I noticed the weight. It wasn't super heavy, but it was weighty, which is great, because that means there's less of a chance that it will go flying off of my stove, if it accidentally gets bumped by a pot or pan.

Lookin' good on my stove top!

When I got the spoon rest into the kitchen and placed it on top of my stove (I kicked the old spoon rest to the curb!), I was so pleased with the way it looked. My hubby came home from work and noticed the new spoon rest right away. He picked it up and looked it over, and told me he thought it was really cool. Not only is it cool, it's functional! Our previous spoon rest was an upright standing spoon rest, and it was really shallow, which didn't leave a lot of room for most of my wooden spoons, spatulas, etc. Most all of them hung over the sides of the spoon rest, and I often wound up with dripped sauces and the like on my stove top, which were a pain to clean up!

My new, customized monogram ceramic spoon rest is quite roomy- wide enough for even my largest spatula to rest on without making a big mess all over my stove! I also like the the spoonerism is long, and that an entire wooden spoon can rest completely on the spoon rest, instead of half on the spoon rest and half on the stove top.

See what I mean? A great size for spoons and spatulas!

We love this pretty spoon rest! It adds a beautiful pop of colorful style to our bland stove!

The spoon rest is so pretty that I'd almost rather display it somewhere other than the stove top, but its purpose is a spoon rest, after all, so I intend to use it for that purpose. My guests will be eyeing it, for sure!
