Every year, without fail, winter shows up like that one friend who swears they’re “on the way” but actually means “I just got in the shower.” And yet somehow… we’re still shocked when the first day of winter arrives.
Like how dare the cold be cold? How dare the sun clock out before or at 4:32 PM sharp? And why does my thermostat now think it’s upper management and can boss me around? Let’s talk about it.
Me talking to Mother Naure: "Bold of You to Assume I’m Prepared."
The first day of winter is always the day I realize I don’t know where any of my winter essentials are.
Mittens? I don't know why, but I always seem to lose just one. Last year’s warm coat? Missing, probably living its best life in a random storage bin. Matching socks? Winter said, “Absolutely not.”
Meanwhile the wind outside is throwing hands like it’s auditioning for a WWE match.
The Temperature Drop Is Personal like I made Mother Nature call me by my full name. Why is it that winter temperatures don’t just drop they plummet?
Yesterday: 58°
Today: -2°, emotionally.
My car has frostbite. The door handle is cold enough to file a complaint. Winter is rude.
Dressing for Winter... I hope you don't expect much from me in this department.
I try leaving the house cute on day one. I really do, but five minutes later I can’t put my arms down like the kid in A Christmas Story. My scarf is swallowing the entire lower part of face if it’s not getting caught in the zipper of my coat. My hair? Gone. Just static vibes at this point, the goal isn’t to look stylish. It’s to survive.
It’s officially that time of year when
95% of your diet becomes hot cocoa or
You carry your coffee like it’s your emotional support animal. If you didn't like hot coffee before... you do now as it flirts with you. You see it too right?
The Winter Mood is not optimistic unless I see no snow in the forecast for days I have to drive myself.
I want to curl up under a blanket, but also I have to function like a responsible adult. Winter really should provide some kind of excuse note for that.
Winter may be cold, dramatic, and slightly disrespectful but it also gives us the perfect excuse to slow down, get cozy, and embrace the chaos. Happy First Day of Winter! Bundle Up & Laugh Through It.
