Christmas Traditions

As a child, one of my favorite Christmas memories was putting the gifts under the tree on Christmas Eve. You see, my Dad works at Church, he's the Minister of Worship and Arts, and we were always at Church on Christmas Eve for multiple services. In between the services, or sometimes after the services, we would head to our friends' homes for parties and then go home and wait for Santa.

As my sister and I got older, we opted to go home after the Christmas Eve services, bring all of the presents downstairs, and put them under the tree. My parents would hide our wrapped gifts in their closet, and we weren't allowed in there until Christmas Eve when we were allowed to bring them downstairs. Ondria and I would put on a Christmas Story, and traipse up and down the stairs with boxes and boxes of gifts, chatting about what we thought was in each box. At this point, it would be pretty late in the evening and we'd still be waiting for our parents to come home. We'd get the milk and cookies ready for Santa, and head to bed. I don't know about my sister, but I'd have such a hard time sleeping and would pretty much stay up all night with anticipation.

As we've gotten older, and started our own families, new traditions are being made, but I'm hoping that one day when I have children, I can start a similar tradition with them!
