Add Some Style to Your Weekend Breakfast with a Pancake Board

Happy almost weekend! In our house, we have a Friday night ritual which consists of my husband asking the kids what they want for breakfast on Saturday morning. After a week of cereal for breakfast, it's so nice to take the time to cook or bake a nice family breakfast on Saturdays. I love that the kids get really into it, and love to choose what we'll have. Since my husband is the family baker, breakfast usually falls to him, as the kids often request Belgian waffles, French breakfast muffins, scones, crepes, etc. Every now and then, however, they request pancakes, and truth be told- no one makes pancakes quite like momma.

I love making pancakes for my family. They usually drool for them, and they disappear faster than I can get them out of the hot skillet. Earlier this week, we had pancakes for dinner- a Shrove Tuesday tradition for many people. Starting the season of Lent off wouldn't be quite right without our annual pancake dinner the night before. I usually just make pancakes and bacon or sausage and throw them on the table with little fanfare, but this year, I thought a pancake board would make our experience even more fun.

To put together a pancake board, you'll first need pancakes! Check out these yummy pancake recipes!

Build Your Board

To build a simple pancake board, you'll need a cutting board or charcuterie board. I just use the cutting boards that we have at home, and flip them over so that the ridged side is on the bottom, giving me a totally flat surface to work with.

Fill the board with pancake toppings.

The sky's the limit when it comes to toppings! I stuck with toppings I know my family loves:

Dark chocolate chips

Fresh berries (blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Fresh fruits (oranges or mandarins, sliced bananas)

Lemon Curd

Powdered Sugar

Real Maple Syrup

Peanut Butter

Nutella

Fresh Whipped Cream

Normally, I would place everything down on the board, side by side- but my crew doesn't like for foods to touch, so I put each item in its own small bowl. You can arrange these however you like. Get creative!

I cooked the bacon in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, which made for easy clean-up.

Once the bacon was ready, I piled it up in one corner of the pancake board.

I placed the other pancake toppings around the board, leaving plenty of room to lay out our pancakes. One the pancakes were added to the board, I carried it to the dining table, and everyone was able to customize their pancakes, just the way they like them.

The kids loved being able to grab different toppings to add to their pancakes, and having pre-sliced fruits available made sure that they got their fruit serving in, too- even if on the side of their pancakes.

The pancake board was a huge hit, looked beautiful, and I have a feeling that we'll be having pancakes this way from here on out. It's also perfect for when you're entertaining! Impress your friends and family with a fun brunch board like this one!

Have you ever tried making a pancake or waffle board? If not, have I inspired you to make one?

Wishing you a fabulous weekend filled with good eats!

    1. To each their own! Like I said- this is an infrequent treat, and not a typical weekend breakfast or brunch for us. I am much happier with an egg bake, but do like to treat my kiddos every once in a while.
