For a Naturally Sweet Treat, Make Your Own Blueberry Lemonade Sweetened with Truvia #TruviaAtWalmart

One of the things I most want to do in 2020, is to be more mindful of what I'm putting into my body. For the most part, I eat fairly healthily. I love fruits and veggies, and try to limit my carbs if and when possible. My weakness is my sweet tooth. Yikes. I crave sweet treats from drinks to desserts all day long. When my sister told me that her doctors told her she had an increased risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes in 2019, I knew it was time to get serious about my health and make smarter choices.

As my sister began to start cutting down on her sugar intake, she had to learn how to adapt. I asked her how on earth she curbed the sweet food and drink cravings, and she said it was as simple as using Truvia in place of regular sugar in cooking, baking, and in drinks. I haven't been a big fan of sugar substitutes in the past, but she raved about Truvia, so I decided to give it a try, and make it a substitution for sugar in some of my own favorite recipes.

What is Truvia?

Unlike other stevia sweeteners out there, Truvia is sweet each and every time. It may seem like a sweet treat, but Truvia is a guilt-free one at that. It's naturally sweet from the stevia leaf, and contains no calories or sugar. It's keto-friendly and is great to use for a number of reasons.

I love the convenience of the Truvia packets. I like to keep a few in my purse and use them in unsweetened tea or coffee. I also love the spoonable Truvia, which is my alternative to a sugar bowl at home. It keeps the Truvia sweetener safe, dry, and fresh. I pick it on my grocery runs to Walmart, where I know I'll always be able to find it at a great price.

After being on vacation, and having my fill of over-indulgent desserts and coffee drinks, I'm ready for lighter and healthier choices. It's been so incredibly mild in the Carolinas so far this winter, and we're still enjoying afternoons spent playing outdoors. I know that our front porch sitting days will be back soon, and that notion has had me craving a Southern staple- lemonade. Traditional lemonade contains a ton of sugar, so I opted to create my own fresh & fruity zero sugar blueberry lemonade, with a little help from Truvia.

Treat Yourself to a Sweet Treat without the Guilt (or Sugar)

Sugar-Free Blueberry Lemonade

Ingredients

1 Cup Fresh Blueberries
3/4 Cup Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/4 Cup Truvia Sweetener
5 Cups of Cold Water

Directions

In a small bowl, crush the blueberries.
Use a strainer to separate the juice from the seeds and skin.
Whisk together the blueberry juice and the lemon juice.
Add the blueberry and lemon juice mixture to a medium-size pitcher.
Add cold water to the pitcher.
Stir in Truvia Sweetener.
*You can adjust the amount of Truvia to your personal taste.

Garnish the pitcher by dropping a handful of fresh (whole) blueberries into the pitcher.
Add several thin slices of lemon to the pitcher, as well.

You can serve in glass bottles, like I did, and garnish each bottle with a few blueberries and a half slice of lemon.

After trying this recipe with Truvia instead of sugar, I am hooked! I can now enjoy one of my favorite year-round beverages without added sugar, and I can serve it to my kiddos without loading them up on sugar, too.
