Delectable Double Bean Burgers

A few years ago Matt and I did the Daniel Fast. After only a couple days in I was looking for a recipe to help me "fake a burger".  I did a few searches on the internet and found a recipe for Irresistible Veggie Burgers. Since I'm so picky, I did end up omitting a few of the ingredients that recipe called for, but the resulting burger still came out pretty tasty.
I've made the burgers twice since then, and they've come out great both of those times too. So, if you're looking for a great meat-free meal idea, I hope you'll consider trying these burgers.

Delectable Double Bean Burgers

You Will Need:
1 (15 oz) can chickpeas/garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup cooked brown rice
1/4 cup rolled oats, run through food processor until consistency of flour
1 medium onion, diced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon cumin
Salt and Pepper, to taste

Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl. Mash with a wire potato masher (and maybe your hands a little) until the mixture is well combined. Form the mixture into patties (4-6) and place them in a single layer on a plate. Place the plate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to help the patties bind.

Once the half-hour is up, spray nonstick spray in the bottom of a large skillet, and place it over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook about 5 minutes on each side, or once the tops are golden brown.
I haven't yet, but I'd love to try making these in my air fryer!

Serve each double bean burger the way you would serve a traditional burger. I prefer mine with no bun and a side of tots!

  1. I have never had a bean burger. My problem is I cannot stand chickpeas.

  2. I love chickpeas, but only recently. I'm wondering if you could double up on the black beans or even swap the chickpeas for white beans or lentils!
