Follow My Home Refresh Journey

My husband and I have lived in our adorable Craftsman home for nine years. It's hard to believe that we've been there this long already. As with most homes, we certainly attach certain memories to them, which can make it tough leave. We simply adore our home, though it's not without its quirks. Our biggest issue is being short on space and trying to figure out how to make the most of it while still being able to fully function as a family of four.

We recently decided that it was long past due for a major overhaul in our home. We've been living with furnishings that have been passed down and well-loved by family members through the years, and many of our decorative accents were purchased nearly twelve years ago when we were getting married. Needless to say, our home needs a big refresh.

Our living room needed an update more than any other room in our home, so we decided to make it our first summer project. Not only did it need a new paint color, it needed new everything. When we decided to paint the room in a trendy farmhouse pallet gray, it meant that our furniture and most all of the accents we've decorated with for the past eleven years would have to change pretty drastically.

If you've ever completely made over a room in your home, you know that it can be expensive to do so. While we did decide that we needed to purchase a new sofa immediately, we've held off on new accent chairs... though they are the next purchase on my to-buy list.

A new rug and new set of curtains definitely helped to pull the living room together after we painted and after the new sofa arrived. I couldn't handle the room looking so unfinished,  so those were our next immediate purchases.

We still have purchases to make, including a new media console, an end table, new chairs, and I'm crossing my fingers for a new and larger television since we've decided to mount the TV on the wall. Accents will also come in time, but I'm being sort of picky about what I choose this time around.

Giving our cottage a modern farmhouse look and feel is a really fun challenge for me. Anyone who knows me knows that I love decorating, and if money were no object, I'd have all the fun in the world. I am working with a tight budget, however, and I'm really excited to share some of my wonderful decor ideas and finds with you as we update our home room by room.

  1. Modern farmhouse style sounds neat--that's what I try to do in our house.

    1. It's so much fun because there are so many different ways you can go with the design. We're mixing in more industrial elements in our dining room, so I'm excited to see how that turns out. This is a much-needed project for us, lol!
