And He Shall Be Like A Tree

"And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:3

Walking down the gravel road where we live, a giant tree laying on it's side is pretty hard to miss. North Carolina has experienced some intense weather as of late and no matter where you look, there are remnants of these storms in full view.

There was one storm in particular that tore through the woods on our property and took quite a few trees with it. This tree was not strong. Yes, it's very large but it's roots were weak. It did not have the proper foundation to withstand the storm.

To help you gain some perspective, my hubby is 6'5".

Much like this tree, we are weak. We can look strong on the outside, but inside our roots are withered.  We are all like this tree in one way or another. There is a trial you are going through right now in this very moment that has your roots so very weak, all it would take is one small gust of wind to knock you loose.

Seeing this tree, I'm reminded of a poem written by Kacie Flemming.

How can we become stronger?
This tree reminds me how fragile I would be without Christ. I would not be able to fight or withstand the wind if I did not have the One who calms the sea, beside me. You see, alone, I will fall every single time. With Jesus, I will not only survive, but thrive.

If you back up a few verses in Psalm 1, the Bible says, "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the Lord..."

… he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water.

I do not want my life to look like this tree we found down the road. As the poem states, I know I will not be free from the rain or the hail, but with God, I will be free from the drench and the sting. I will not be free from the cold or the wind, but I am free from the bitterness and the blast.

Blessings,

  1. That trees roots were certainly big, but like you said, must've been weak. The poem is beautiful. Glad you posted it because I hadn't seen it.
