Do your kids love to read, explore, and discover? I count myself lucky that both of my littles love books! They come by their love for reading honestly, as they have had a grandma and a great grandma who are/were librarians. When I was a kid, I loved to go to the library and check out my favorite books, and I also loved my book collection that my parents and grandparents worked hard to build for me at home. My kiddos love adding new books to their bookshelves and have quickly fallen head over heels for Barefoot Books.

Over the past few weeks, I have had the pleasure of connecting with Donna Hart. Donna is a sweet lady, and loves sharing her love for reading and learning with families. I was so excited to see the wonderful selections that Donna chose to send to us. I was incredibly moved that she wanted each of my children to have a wonderful first experience with Barefoot Books. Baby S received two adorable board books and a plush piggy. Big Bro B received two books and an awesome pirate activity set!

Baby S loves animals and enjoys reading books with big pictures, so she can point to the animals and make the sounds that they make. These two board books were perfect for her.

Who's In the Farmyard is an adorable peek-a-boo book, which introduces little ones to all of the different animals on the farm.

My mom grew up on a farm, so she is particularly fond of this book, and enjoys reading it with baby S. S loves to turn the pages and discover all of the different animals. She especially loves cows and piggies. The book is colorful and bright and encourages readers to make the animal sounds as the book goes along.

This cute set is perfect for gifting! It includes the How Big is a Pig board book, and an adorable plush piggy, which is incredibly soft and huggable. We love this book and read it almost every night. The book shows different animals asking 'How big is a pig- do you know?'

As you can see, S loves her piggy. She's been bringing it along everywhere, and especially loves to bring it in the car when we pick Big Bro B up from school in the afternoons. She also loves to look at the How Big is a Pig book while we wait in the pickup line at school... it's the perfect way to pass the time.

Port Side Pirates is a fun adventure on the high seas for your kiddos!

Port Side Pirates is such a fun book. It's so well illustrated, and B just loves it. He's a big fan of pirate-themed everything, and loves reading this book on his own. One of the cool things about this book is that it comes with a CD. You can pop it right into your computer and watch/listen along to the music as the book is 'sung' to you! It's perfect for a sing-along!

B had so much fun putting together the Pop-Out Pirates activity!

The Pop-Out Pirates set is the perfect companion to the Port Side Pirates book. The kit includes sheets of thick cardboard figures and objects which can be put together to create a scene on the high seas. B had no trouble putting this together all on his own, and was excited to play pirates once he was finished.

The set includes a pirate ship, pirate figures, an island scene with a treasure chest, waves, and a shark.

One of my favorite books that Donna sent to us- My Big Barefoot Book of French & English Words!

My dad's dad's (my grandfather's) family is French. My maiden name is Durocher, which is French. I've always been interested in French culture and the language, and have wanted to learn more than just the little bits of French that I learned in 5th and 6th grade, which was ages ago! Now that my son is in elementary school, he's interested in learning different languages and has shown an interest in learning French. My Big Barefoot Book of French & English Words is helping the whole family learn to speak a little basic French.

With 700+ words and phrases in a brightly colored and beautifully illustrated hardcover book, we're learning French one day at a time, right at home.

B won't have the opportunity to take a second language class at school until he's a little older. He already knows a little German and Italian (hubby's family is German, my grandmother's family is Italian- we're a melting pot of a family). French is one of the languages B will be able to take at school, so we figured we'd get an early start with some basic words and phrases so he'll be prepared when he's old enough to take French. This has been a fun experience for the whole family. We enjoy reading through the book together and quizzing each other on the new French words we've learned.
