Knowing My God: Essential Bible Basics #Review + #Giveaway

I received product free of charge in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

When I found out that my niece, Mara (7 weeks old) was going to be baptized, I immediately reflected on the baptism of my son, and what a special day that was- for him, and for our family. We had such a wonderful celebration at the font, and then with family following the worship service. I thought of all of the beautiful gifts that B received as a baby at his baptism, many of which we are still enjoying- like books, photo frames, etc. I wanted to find a special gift for Mara, because standing before her as her family, we make a promise to her parents and to God, to nurture her in her faith journey.

Even young children can begin making a personal connection with Jesus’ words found in the Knowing My God Series Starter Set. The 3-book set includes Jesus Invites Me, based on Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus Shows Me, based on John 15:9-14, and Jesus Saves Me, based on John 10:14-16. A keepsake book band offers thinking and drawing activities for reflection.

The Knowing My God starter set is a beautiful gift set, which comes with three board books, suitable for all ages.

When we were introduced to this series, I thought that it would be wonderful for B, but it would also make a beautiful gift for sweet Mara, who is so tiny, yet I know will one day be full of questions. If she's anything like her Uncle Sacha, she'll love to ask questions, and will be encouraged to do so.

Knowing My God- Jesus Invites Me

In this book Children receive Jesus’ great invitation through his words for them in Matthew 11:28-30. They’re also invited to explore what a response to him looks like in their lives. One question that we are always asking ourselves at the end of a sermon, message or news article is: What is our response? What are we going to do about it- or what will our next move be? An important question for adults and children, alike.

Jesus Saves Me

I love Jesus Saves Me, which explains why we are loved by Jesus, and what He did for us on the cross. The cross is such a powerful symbol of our faith- it represents unfailing love, poured out for all, and this book allows for open conversation. This can be a tough concept for kids of any age. My five year old is starting to ask a lot of questions about God, Jesus, heaven, and I have to admit that he's a bit afraid of living in heaven. I don't remember questioning anything I was taught about God/Jesus when I was a child- it's only been in my adult years that I have raised questions, which my husband and I believe is a healthy thing for believers, and non-believers, alike. We want our son to feel comfortable enough to ask us the tough questions, so we can give him honest answers, which he can draw his own conclusions from as he ages.

Jesus Shows Me.

This book is such a wonderful example of the children we all are, in the eyes of the Lord. Why did God send His Son to us? To die for us and save us from our sin, yes- but it goes far beyond that... Jesus walked among us to show us how to live, how to love. The older I get, the more I realize what an important role Jesus played, outside of the cross. Reading the Gospels is a wonderful look at the life of Jesus- and sharing those stories with your children shows them how to live- like Jesus, how to love, like Jesus, how to pray, just as Jesus taught his disciples (us).

Jesus Shows Me is filled with beautiful stories from scripture, which capture the very human Jesus, leading the way for all.

There's even a section for the grown-ups in each book, a guide to be used with the book, and questions to ask, etc.

We're so happy that we were able to present this set to Mara and her parents on Mara's baptismal day. What a special gift it is, one we know that they will cherish, as their sweet little girl grows in God's grace.
