Dino Loving Daughters and Their New Dino e-Book! -Candy and the Cankersaur #Review and #Giveaway

Drew loves dinosaurs. I'm not entirely sure how this interest started, but I think it has something to do with Rex from the Toy Story films. Like most younger siblings, Reese likes anything and everything Drew likes and, as you guessed, that includes dinosaurs.

Is Rex to Blame for the Dino Obsession?

Recently, we got an opportunity to review an e-book called Candy and the Cankersaur by Jason Sandberg. Jason is a Fine Artist who is working to produce the 'missing books' (the books he wished he'd had)  from his childhood.

A Fine Artist Indeed- Check Out The Cover Illustration!

I was really excited to read this book with the girls. As a bedtime story, this book is aimed toward children ages 3-6 and as a read-alone book, it is suited for children ages 6-9. Since Reese is 3 and Drew is 7, we definitely have the age groups covered. We read it, the first time, as a bedtime story and both girls loved it. Drew was pointing out the morals in the story (she picked up on 2), which was great because she has been learning about morals at school and I was glad that she could make the connection in a story outside of school. Reese really enjoyed the illustrations, and how the story ended on a happy, but silly note.

Drew Wanted To Read Reese a Bedtime Story

I think the story is great and the illustrations are stunning. The only criticism I have of the book is that I wish it included a resolution of the father/daughter relationship. The girls didn't seem to notice, and not having it included didn't really take anything away from the story, but it did seem like an important plot point in the beginning of the story and I expected it to be brought up again at the end.

So, while the story-line and 'stars' of the book were a big hit with the girls, I personally enjoyed the feeling of familiarity this book provided me. I didn't fully understand why it felt like a trip down memory lane, until I remembered that Jason had mentioned that this story was a "fun homage to Syd Hoff".

Who Else Remembers This Gem?

I definitely recommend Candy and the Cankersaur for parents of children who have a fondness for "terrible lizards". It quickly captured the attention of my two dinosaur fans and delivered some great underlying messages.
