There are so many things that reading with a child fosters. I started collecting books for our little one before I even knew when he would be born. I have such fond memories of family and teachers reading to me as a little girl, I knew it was very important to develop a love of books in my child. In his nursery reading corner, Mr. G has a comfy pillow, a favorite cuddle buddy, and easy access to lots and lots of books.

When Skyhorse Publishing sent us two new books, I knew Mr. G would enjoy flipping the pages. He seems to be captivated by not only what is on the page but the motion, too. Turning pages in a book was actually one of his earliest "tricks" and he still loves helping out as we read along. I love that as soon as I sit down he crawls walks-then-crashes into my lap ready to listen. 

Holding an 11 month old's attention is not an easy task, so any book that we make it through I consider a success! However, The Tiny Traveler books kept the little wiggler entertained for quite a while. 

The first book, The Tiny Traveler: Egypt, A Book of Shapes, features a creative exploration of simple shapes found in the scenes of Egypt. The pages are filled with vocabulary, geometry, history and fun! 

Author and illustrator Misti Kenison is on to a great idea with these books, teaching new toddler skills but also inspiring little ones (and their families!) to want to learn about other cultures. It's never to early to start a travel wish list! Kenison is a website and graphic designer, and the owner of MK Design.

In the second book, The Tiny Traveler: France, A Book of Colors, which we both enjoyed, beautiful bold images of Paris highlight the colors of the rainbow. The high contrast design is perfect for capturing a toddler's attention, and as a former graphic designer myself, I appreciate the clean and modern design. 

These two books are sure to be a hit for those just beginning to understand books all the way up to the toddler learning shapes and colors. And, with the high quality board pages, the books are sure to stick around for lots of fun.
