Cutting the Right Size Bite with BiteSizers {Review and Giveaway}

Baby C is not really a baby any longer. She has made it very clear that she is a girl who can "do it herself" and very clearly almost 2. This is one of those stages that can be so frustrating to parents, because they want their little ones to be little still and the little ones want to be so big. C is our baby still, even though she wouldn't always agree.

Meal times have become more difficult in the current stage of C doing everything herself. She must have a fork and spoon at every meal, and everything must be on a plate or in a bowl, not just on her tray. She also thinks she can just eat foods whole if you haven't had the chance to cut them up fast enough, which can be a very dangerous choking hazard. Thankfully, one of our newest items in our kitchen, is helping me slice things a lot faster, so C can get eating and be a big girl.
Mixed Pears, launched in late 2014, is a new company with big ideas. As parents, they had the same thoughts many parents do, "I wish there was a product that could do this or that, it would be so much easier". Well, Mixed Pears is now doing just that, their goal is to design and create high quality baby and kid products that you wished had already existed.

Mixed Pears came from a couple, Matt and Christina, who were mixed-culture, multilingual, and raising two boys in both Taiwan and Vermont. They are passionate about food and making sure all children grow up eating real food. With the help of many people and organizations, Mixed Pears, released their first product, the BiteSizers Mealtime Scissors.
We were offered the opportunity to try out these scissors, review them, and share our experience with our trusted and loyal MBP readers. I was thrilled with the chance to partner with Mixed Pears and try them out, they would be a much welcomed help to mealtime with C.

Our package from Mixed Pears is here!
Inside our package we found a set of BiteSizers Mealtime Scissors and a few information pages
The first information page was a quick intro page about the scissors and social media links. The second information page had photos and very detailed information about the Mealtime Scissors, along with a top 10 things to love about BiteSizers.

We also found a set of BiteSizers Mealtime Scissors

We were sent the BiteSizers in Pink Bubbles, but they also come in Green Seeds and Blue Hex. They retail for $19.95 each.
The packaging is really creative. It is a three way folding package. The front clearly states the product and what it is intended to do: Cut food to the right bite size. The other two front folded pages give details on the scissors themselves.
  • The scissors are Certified Food Safe-all materials are lab tested to be food safe and free of BPA, Lead, PVC, Phthalates, and Formaldehyde.
  • The scissors have Comfort Grips-specifically designed to cut food vertically or horizontally, one handed directly in a bowl, with your left or right hand.
  • The scissors have a Snap On Cap-keeps blades clean and closed when on the go
  • The scissors have a Built In Sizer Guide-cut food to the recommended size for young children with confidence.
  • The scissors have Rounded Tips-utensil grade Japanese 420J2 stainless steel blades have rounded tips for less poking and scratching.
The interior three folded pages also have some fun. Two pages are colorful, with photos of fresh fruit, the third page has care instructions to keep your BiteSizers in great condition.

This packaging has to be one of the most colorful and informative I have seen. I think it is great that Mixed Pears is really giving all the information about their product in a detailed and fun way. The packaging is also glue free and printed on recycled paper.

The BiteSizers are a great pink color, and the design is fun, while the green and blue look just as neat. I can easily find them in my messy utensil drawer too. I am happy that they have chosen to really make sure they are food safe by being BPA, Lead, PVC, Phthalates, and Formaldehyde free. The rounded tips make them safer to use as well, I am not known to be super safe with sharp kitchen items, so these should be okay for me to use. I also appreciate the snap on cap, this helps keep the blades clean, but also protects fingers from even a small pinch.

Getting ready to prepare to cut C's peaches up.
She is a huge fruit fan, so I can never move quickly enough for her. These scissors are super easy to use and very convenient for preparing C's food these days, especially when I have to move a bit faster to keep her from shoving larger items into her mouth.

The comfort grips on the scissors make it easy to cut both horizontally or vertically and also one handed using either hand. This can come in handy when I am holding C while trying to prepare food, this happens almost daily.
The green dot in the center of the scissors is a size guide that is built in. This size guide is based on what the American Academy of Pediatrics feels is the recommended size for food for toddlers (no larger than 1/2" in diameter). There is no extra guessing about if it should be smaller, you can trust that the built in sizer guide.
The blades are really nice, they have soft food cutting grooves to keep small, softer food from sticking to the blade while slicing right through. It took me only about 15 seconds to cut into pieces that C could easily pick up on her own and eat.
Happy to be feeding herself with her fork and small, safe pieces of peach

I am a new fan of BiteSizers Mealtime Scissors and have been using them to slice all of C's food. It is so quick and easy to do, even one handed while holding C. They are such a fun, simple tool to make my life a bit easier. *Note*-they are NOT meant for dishwasher use, please hand wash only with hot water and soap and dry with a soft cloth.
