Learning Rocks with Rock 'N Learn's Early Childhod Collection! #Review + #Giveaway

Tuesdays and Thursdays are the longest, and hardest days of the week for me to get through. These are the days that B does not go to preschool, and is home with me all day. I'm not sure how I survived before preschool started. Next year will be different, as B will go to preschool five days a week, instead of three, but for now, I have the rest of the school year and the summer to get through, keeping my little man occupied. It works well for us to structure the day like a school day would work. We get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and get ready for the day to begin. I plan lessons and activities for us to do together on Tues/Thurs, so B is still receiving an education, even though he is at home, with me.

I know that our at home lessons have to be fun, and semi-challenging, or B will quickly lose interest. We have found that Rock 'N Learn has been a wonderful addition to our lessons at home. Rock 'N Learn is based in Texas, and owned by its Founders Richard and Brad Caudle. Working as a school psychologist in 1986, Richard saw the need for multi-sensory learning programs using the styles of music that kids love. He consulted his younger brother Brad, an accomplished musician, to record their first program to help kids learn multiplication facts. Strong sales of this recording in the school specialty and book markets led to other programs and the start of a successful company.

Today, with over 50 products, and multiple awards, Rock 'N Learn continues to develop quality audio and video programs that hold interest and help kids learn. Many of the Rock 'N Learn products meet Common Core standards, which is a huge plus for parents and educators.

The Rock 'N Learn Early Childhood Collection

We were lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to check out Rock 'N Learn's new Early Childhood Collection. B knows his alphabet backwards and forwards, and can count to 100. He is able to recognize and read select words, but one of my goals is to have him reading and writing by the end of this summer. I want B to be fully prepared for his 4-year-old preschool class, and be prepped for Kindergarten level work, as well.

The collection includes Alphabet Al's ABC Book of Words and Rhymes

The ABC Book of Words and Rhymes

We love Alphabet Al! He is so cool, and makes learning letters words and sounds so much fun! The board book is a great size for B- not too small, and easy for him to flip through on his own. The pages are very colorful, with big, bold pictures and words. B is able to easily recognize the pictures, and and has even learned some new words.

B, checking out some of the letter 'M' words. He was so excited to see a monkey and a microscope on the same page!

The corresponding DVD is wonderful! The music is so much fun, and keeps B rockin' while we learn together! We're loving being able to go on a musical journey with Alphabet Al, as we go through the alphabet, learn new words, rhyme together, and even learn how to print letters and words! B has got tracing letters down pat, and this is already helping to improve his letter writing skills. As a parent, I love that he actually wants to watch this DVD, and even asks for it! It's so much fun for me to be able to incorporate this into our lessons at home. It certainly gives us a break from sitting down at the table, doing worksheets all morning.

The Colors, Shapes & Counting Board Book, also part of the Rock 'N Learn Early Childhood Collection.

The Colors, Shapes and Counting Book also has bold, colorful pages with fun pictures!

This book is helping B recognize objects, colors and shapes.

This book is also an early introduction to basic word problems. Word problems were always my favorite part of math lessons (otherwise, I totally disliked math). I'm not very good at math, so being able to sit down with B, and start with the very basics is good for both of us. I am already very impressed by what he knows, and has learned from the Rock 'N Learn books and DVDs!

The Colors, Shapes and Counting book has also introduced B to some new colors!

Not only is B able to recall the colors he already knows, he's actually being introduced to new colors, like turquoise, violet, pink, gray, and maroon! Rock 'N Learn has a fun way of introducing new concepts to a child, while incorporating other skills, like counting, and shape recognition.

Check out a clip from the Colors, Shapes and Counting DVD...

One of the great things about this program, is that it offers advanced concepts for gifted learners. B has known his alphabet and numbers for a couple of years already. We pretty much started working on them as soon as he was able to talk, and my husband and I don't shy away from using 'big words' and explaining what they mean. B has a pretty extensive vocabulary for a 4-year-old, and it's important to me that he knows that he has options as to which words he uses. We're often complimented on how well spoken B is, and it's because of being able to use programs such as Rock 'N Learn in our home. It is not the  responsibility of B's teachers to teach him how to read and write- that is my responsibility as his parent. At a recent parent teacher conference, the director of B's school told us that the best thing we can do with him through the summer to prep him for the next school year, will be to read, read, read, and that's what we plan to do!
