NOAH: A Beautiful Portrayal of the Story of Noah in Pictures #Review + #Giveaway

When I was a little girl, my mom and my grandmother took me to Sunday School each week. I loved gathering with other children, learning about Jesus. I loved hearing Bible stories, and definitely have a collection of favorite Old Testament stories, which I still love revisiting today. Now, my son goes to Weekday Church School each Wednesday, and learns the same stories I loved as a child. It is such a joy for me to watch his face as he hears these stories, and to talk with him about what they mean for us. Sharing these stories, and the Gospel, is what we're called to do as disciples of Christ, and what better way to train up our children to do likewise, than to share these meaningful stories with them?

One of my favorite stories is Noah and the Flood, and it comes as no surprise to me that B loves this story, as well. It's recently gained a lot of attention, because it's been played out on the big screen. I want my son to hear the story- stright from scripture, and draw his own conclusions, just as my husband and I did. The story of Noah is filled with suspense and adventure, and is a true test of obedience and God's faithfulness.

A hundred years before the Great Flood, a man named Noah came home talking crazy. God wanted him to build the biggest ship the world had ever seen. The future of humanity depended on it. How would his wife respond? What would the neighbors think? Was it even feasible?

We were invited to revisit the famous story of Noah and the Flood, through a beautiful wordless picture book, titled 'Noah,' by Mark Ludy. I was thrilled to receive a copy of this book. We often read Bible stories from our SPARK Bible for children, but this is the story of Noah through pictures.

This beautiful hardcover book contains 64 pages (wordless) of breathtaking images, which tell the story of Noah and his family, following God and surviving the great flood.

A beautiful, powerful image of the dove with the olive branch.

God's promise revealed through a beautiful rainbow. (This is my favorite picture from the book- I still think of God's promises each time I see a rainbow.)

I love sitting down with B to look through this gorgeous book. By not telling the story through words, B is able to really observe the pictures without distraction, and ask his own questions. This allows me to tell the story by answering his questions, as they arise. Each page of the story also contains an adorable little mouse, which adds a bit of fun to storytime!

Making memories and passing down the story to the next generation- B looking through Noah with his Papa (my dad).

This lavish reimagining of one of the greatest stories of all time will fascinate children and adults alike. Nuanced and playful, yet meticulous in following the biblical narrative, Mark Ludy’s world-class art digs deeper than the Sunday-school tale of cuddly animals, exploring noah’s relationship with his family, the natural world, God - and a formidable engineering challenge.

Mark Ludy has written or illustrated eight children’s books including The Farmer, The Flower Man, The Grump, When I Was  a Boy I Dreamed, When I Was a Girl I Dreamed, and Jujo the Youngest Tribesman. When he’s not immersed in his sketchbooks, you’ll find him in schools promoting art and literacy. He lives in Colorado with his wife, daughter, and two sons.
