VeggieTales: Beauty and the Beet New to DVD #Review + #Giveaway

Hang onto your hats- your favorite veggies are back! Bob and Larry return for the final VeggieTales DVD release of 2014, which officially released October 14th! We're big time VeggieTales fans and were thrilled when we heard that the newest installment (in this fun-loving series which goes above and beyond to teach kiddos of all ages about God's love), would be loosely based on one of our favorite fairy tales, Beauty and the Beast.

This brand-new VeggieTales musical stars Kellie Pickler (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars), who brings her unmistakable voice to the role of Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom. BEAUTY AND THE BEET blends the irresistible charm of VeggieTales with a heartfelt message about unconditional love. The DVD also includes Mac and Cheese, a giddy new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment in which Larry the Cucumber reveals the surprising and heretofore untold history of his family’s unexpected contributions to Italian cuisine. BEAUTY AND THE BEET is just the start of the fun in store this fall for VeggieTales fans, because the gang will also star in a brand-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House, which premieres Thanksgiving weekend.

Still from BEAUTY AND THE BEET: Maribelle gives the Beet a singing lesson.

Since we love these wonderful veggie characters so much already, I knew that B would be super excited to see a brand new VeggieTales movie on our own TV screen! We received a special package of VeggieTales goodness, and we couldn't wait to see what was inside!

We received an adorable VeggieTales drawstring bag, and...

...our very own copy of BEAUTY AND THE BEET!

Our Thoughts...

I could tell that B was unsure of whether or not he actually wanted to sit down and try to watch Beauty and the Beet. He was excited that he got a new VeggieTales DVD to watch, but was bummed that Bob and Larry were off to the side, and were not front and center. I explained to him that they were still a part of the show, and we'd have to agree to watch it in order to see what their roles were in this exciting tale. So, after a little coercion, we snuggled up on the couch, and settled in to watch Beauty and the Beet.

Just from reading the exciting intro for this film, I was excited to see it. Beauty and the Beast is one of my all time favorite stories, and I couldn't wait to see how the VeggieTales team creatively put their own spin on it. Plus, the fact that Kellie Pickler voices Mirabelle and sings (a lot) in this feature was exciting, because she's from a neighboring county here in NC!

Looks cute, right? Well, this VeggieTales musical didn't disappoint! It truly had a little something for everyone, from the music to the glamour, to silliness we have come to love and expect from Bob, Larry, and Alfred. Bob and Larry are still a big part of this feature, but it's great to see some new characters introduced in this movie, especially female role models for young girls. Mirabelle's character is so loving and sweet- she shows kindness to everyone she meets! Bob and Manuel are very welcoming as employees of the Alpine Lodge, when Larry and his family (The VeggieTones) find themselves stranded and needing a place to stay while on tour.

The Beet, however, (owner of the lodge) is not so welcoming, and orders the family to stay and work for their room and board. The family works together to make the best of things, fix up the lodge, and even introduce an evening dinner show. No one seems very interested in showing the Beet some kindness, except for Mirabelle, who encourages him to take singing lessons from her.

In the end, the Beet has a big change of heart, and it was all because Mirabelle was willing to show him love and kindness- because that's what God does! As it turns out, B really loved this wonderful new VeggieTales story, and asked to watch it for a second time. I was thrilled, because it allowed us to have a conversation about the film, and talk about how important it is to show love and kindness to others, even when no one else will.

Not only is the story of Beauty and the Beet entertaining, we had a blast singing along with the latest installment of Silly Songs with Larry!

Take a look...

Now you'll be singing, 'My Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great- I forget how many greats!' all night! You're welcome! B thought this song was hilarious, and loves mac and cheese, so this was right up his alley! We love this song already!

Beauty and the Beet will be an instant hit in your house, if you're already a fan of VeggieTales, or if you're a fan of fairy tales! Even if you're not much of a country music fan, you'll surely find yourself singing right along with Mirabelle and The VeggieTones- how could you not?

Beauty and the Beet would make a wonderful gift this Christmas- a perfect stocking stuffer, or gift to be wrapped up under the tree. It would also make a lovely gift for a Sunday School teacher, would be great to gift to a church ministry group/program, etc.
