Take a look at The Boxcar Children...

About the Cast
Featuring an all-star cast of voice actors, including Academy Award Nominee Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now), J.K. Simmons (Spiderman), Zach Gordon (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Joey King (Fargo), Mackenzie Foy (Twilight series), and Jadon Sand (LEGO: The Movie), this is the very first full-length, animated feature adaptation of Gertrude Chandler Warner's best-selling classic!

Our Thoughts...

I was excited for the opportunity to receive a sneak peek at The Boxcar Children, based on the best selling book series. I wasn't sure how B would do sitting through a feature of this nature, but since a couple of the characters in the story are young children, he was interested in seeing what they were up to.

We saved The Boxcar Children for a rainy afternoon, popped some popcorn, and sat down to watch it. I didn't worry about the movie being too old or scary for B, because it has earned a DOVE Family Approval Seal, which indicates that the film is appropriate for all ages.

B and I watched as the children make an abandoned boxcar their home. We enjoyed seeing their creativity play out on screen, as they used whatever they could find to make the boxcar and the area around it seem just as quaint and comfortable as home. This is a story of what it takes to survive, and put someone else's needs before your own. I love the overall theme of the story, which is 'there's a place in this world for all of us.' By sticking together, and working through tough situations, The Boxcar Children find adventure, a few surprises, and the true meaning of love and family.

We also enjoyed many of the special features that are included with the Collector's Edition. We printed out the town map, and went on an adventure, right in our own home, while listening to some of the music from The Boxcar Children soundtrack!

I give this film 4 stars, for the heartwarming story, the animation, and the awesome cast! This is definitely a movie I would recommend to friends and family who have children ages 5+.

  3. Haha! I spent my whole childhood deciding how I would decorate a fictional boxcar (if only I remembered...). I'd definitely have pine needle beds, giant maple leaves for plates, and neatly hung knick knack treasures on the walls.
