Our Thoughts

Yay, we have a package to open!

What could it be?

Wow, 4 DVDs!!

The first two were Rugrats-Outdoor Shenanigans and Reptar Returns

The second two were Robot Invasion and Heroes in Action

The kids had absolutely no clue what this show was, which I found funny because I remember watching it when I was younger. They were excited to try it out and see what it was all about. My kids do not watch Nickelodeon, but apparently the Rugrats cartoons are back on air in reruns. S was pretty interested because I told her it was about crazy babies doing silly things.

The babies, Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, and big cousin Angelica have quite a few different adventures in this 5 episode DVD. Together they go on a pretend tour of America, go on a mission to save Tommy's favorite ball, set out on a moose hunt, play pirates, and try to discover gold. This was the favorite of the four DVDs we got. S thought it was funny and that the babies were really silly. B had some really true laugh out loud moments too. The kids were definitely entertained the whole time and asked to watch it again the next day.

S was a bit timid about this one because of the cover, Reptar was a bit scary to her and she doesn't like to watch anything that might frighten her. After some coaxing that it wouldn't be too bad, she agreed.

S and B watched this disc on a long car trip. This DVD only had three episodes and all of them included the big man Reptar, the T-Rex. S was still not convinced this was for her and said the Rex is kind of mean, but B was into it.
The next two DVDs I was apprehensive about because we normally do not allow SpongeBob in our house and I had no clue what Sanjay and Craig was about. I hoped the robot theme would be enough to keep the kids interested in something they had never seen before and knew they weren't allowed to watch.
The Robot Invasion has three episodes, one for each SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Sanjay and Craig. Both SpongeBob parts involved SpongeBob and his friends, the kids laughed a few times and thought there were some silly parts, especially Mr. Krab and when Patrick adopts a baby scallop. The TMNT episode was a little grown up for S, but B enjoyed both the storyline and action of a remote controlled robot turtle. The Sanjay and Craig episode was a little mature for both kids and both lost interest pretty quickly. In the first part, friends are left stranded on a highway median and the second part involved the friends becoming party animals with the help of a partybot.

This DVD was better fit for the kids than Robot Invasion and included 5 episodes. The SpongeBob episodes were about a superhero (Patrick) causing trouble around town and going to battle with the Dirty Bubble, there was quite a few giggles with this one. The other was about Gary and his new red ball and becomes crazy obsessed with it, it was really kind of weird but the kids got a kick out of it. Again the TMNT was a no go for S, but B like this one. The turtles are trying to save the day against an evil inventor and must defend the city. The TMNT are definitely geared more towards the boy population in our house. I will have to see if all of the Sanjay and Craig episodes seem mature, as these were too, not as much as the other two though. S didn't even try to watch this one and even B seemed a bit lost on the storyline of growing giant calf muscles in the COPS episode.

Overall we much preferred the Rugrats DVDs to the other set, but all in all they provided entertainment to the kids for a few longer car trips over the weekend. For $9.99 they a decent deal for some summer fun.
