Summer Style from Head to Toe with #Jamberry Nails #Review + #Giveaway

Now that it's time to wear sandals and flip flops full time (yay, because I love my sandals!), I am having to pay a bit more attention to my tootsies. I don't necessarily neglect them during the fall and winter, but I don't spend a lot of time or money painting my toenails, etc, because I don't want my hard work to be ruined by my shoes.

Pedicures can be very expensive, and I treat myself to (maybe) one a year, more for the pampering spa experience than anything else. I used to spend one evening every two weeks, giving myself a really fancy at home pedicure, and my toes always looked gorgeous for summertime. Now, I don't have that kind of time on my hands, and am so active with my son, that my polish always, always winds up chipped. What's a stylish, yet active mom to do? I've even thought about nail tech school, just for the experience of learning how to do nail art well! The answer lies within Jamberry Nails. If you haven't heard of Jamberry, you must have been hiding under a rock, because Jamberry has really gained popularity in the past couple of years. Every time I turn around, a friend of mine is hosting a Jamberry party, inviting me over for girl time. Jamberry Nails came about (officially) in 2010, launching after three sisters spent an expensive afternoon at the salon. They wanted to find a better way for women to enjoy having their nails done, that wouldn't cost a lot of money, and wouldn't wind up chipping or flaking off after only a few days. Jamberry nail wraps launched and really took off- expanding to a direct sales business, which consultant Julie Jennings, was eager to join.

I was so pleased to connect with Julie, who offered me a set of Jamberry Nail Wraps of my choice to review. I headed to Julie's personal Jamberry website, and had a look around. I found lot's of different categories of nail wraps, from floral to solid colors, and collegiate designs. I poured over the website for a long time, before I finally reached a decision.

I couldn't wait to see the design I had chosen in person. I shared my selection with Julie, who ordered the nail wraps from Jamberry. Jamberry mailed the nail wraps directly to me, and I received them via USPS. When they arrived, I couldn't wait to put the nail wraps on! Our family had an upcoming trip to a water park resort coming up, and I was eager to Jamberry my nails before we hit the road!

On the other side of the envelope, was information about Jamberry Nails, and application instructions. I kept this handy, because I knew I would need the step by step guide.

Though I was eager to start putting the nail wraps on, Julie let me know ahead of time, that I may want to watch the Official Jamberry Nails Application video, before adhering the wraps to my nails. The video features the Jamberry sisters, and together, they demonstrate how simple and easy it is to apply the nail wraps, and quick step by step instructions on how to do it. So, I did watch the video, and found it quite helpful.

How to Apply the Jamberry Nail Wraps

After I watched the application video, I felt pretty confident. Now, keep in mind that the Jamberry sisters have had a lot of practice with the nail wraps. The more times you apply the nail wraps, the better you'll become at getting them to go on the way you want them to.

Here's what my nails looked like before. They were already painted, and the Jamberry instructions said that the nail wraps could be used over polish.

I thought about removing my polish, but I had an idea up my sleeve, to only use the nail wraps on my big toes for the time being. Keeping them painted would also help hide any flaws, if I couldn't get the application to go just right. I obviously chose a polish color that would match the color pallet of the nail wraps.

First things first, I found the right size nail wrap for my large toenail, by holding the sheet of nail wraps against my toes. I chose the one that best matched my nail size.

To remove the nail wrap, simply peel it gently from the plastic film.

One I had chosen the right size, I did hold the nail wrap over my toenail, just to see if I was going to wind up cutting it to the right size. Lucky for me, it looked as though it was going to be a perfect fit! The next step in the application process, was for me to heat the nail wrap for 3-4 seconds. I did this with the medium heat setting on my blow dryer. Be careful when doing this- the wrap and your fingers can become hot very quickly.

Once the nail wrap was flexible and warm, I lined it up, and adhered it to my toenail. I made sure it was just the way I wanted it, and smoothed over it with my finger.

Next, I used nail scissors, which were curved (and helped a lot), to trim off the excess of the nail wrap.

There was quite a lot left over from the first nail wrap, and I was able to flip it, and use it on my other big toe.

Getting the nail wraps adhered to the toenails, and trimming the excess was the easy part. Now, it's time to get to the intricate part. After I had both toes wrapped, I snapped a photo, and checked them over. I was happy with the way they looked, and was ready to finish the application process.

I grabbed my nail file, cuticle pusher, and a bottle of clear top coat polish to use for the final steps in the application process for my Jamberry Nail Wraps. I was so excited to be done, and to see them nails beautifully finished, that I almost forgot about these next steps!

Time to file the excess.

I know, you thought that I already removed the excess by trimming with the scissors. Trimming removes the extra part of the wrap, but by using a nail file in a downward motion against the nail, you can get the nail wrap as close to the edge of your nail as you like. You can even do a little shaping up.

You simply use the file to 'saw off' the edge. See what I had left, even after trimming with the scissors?

Using a downward motion to file, helps you to get a nice, clean edge, instead of a jagged one.

After filing, I applied heat over the nail wraps for a few seconds on each toe, and used the rubber end of my cuticle pusher, to smooth out any rough spots, and to seal the edges. Again, be careful when doing this- the heat from the hair dryer can be very, very hot. Next, I used my clear polish over the nail wraps. I wanted to do this, because in my experience, it helps protect the nail wraps, and gives a bit of an extra bond. You don't have to do this- it's just something that I like to do, plus, it gives a nice shine to the nail wraps, which matches the shine on my other toes.

I was telling my mom about the Jamberry nail wraps, after I did my application. She happened to be over at my house, and I told her that if she could spare fifteen minutes, I could wrap her large toenails, too. She loved the idea, and was excited for me to wrap her nails.

Now, back to my story about why I only wrapped my large toe nails, and not all of my toe nails. We were going to a big water park resort, and I wasn't sure how the Jamberry Nail Wraps would hold up against the chlorine from the pools. I also sort of wanted to do a little experiment to see what held up better- the nail wraps, or my nail polish.

We spent a lot (and I do mean a lot) of our trip in and out of the pools, lazy river, and play areas at the water park. I had an incident in the lazy river where my three year old started sliding off of the float, and when I went to grab him, a jet of water sort of pushed us into the 'rock' wall, causing my to scrape my toes against it. A couple of my toes got scraped badly, and my big toe scraped the wall, too, however, I was totally shocked, that my Jamberry nail wrap stayed fully in tact on my nail! By the end of our third day at the water park, my toes were looking a little rough. The chlorine had done quite a number on my polish, My Jamberry nail wraps, however, still looked as good as they did they first say I put them on!

I am so impressed by the Jamberry Nail Wraps, and I can't wait to add even more designs to my nail polish and tools beauty drawer! I have another water park trip planned this summer, a family vacation, crossing my fingers for a late summer beach trip, and numerous outings planned with the family through the summer months, and I want my nails wrapped in beautiful Jamberry designs, so I don't have to worry about polish chipping or fading. I hate being on vacation and then realizing that I forgot to bring my nail polish for touch-ups. With Jamberry nail wraps, you never even have to worry about it!
