Taco Tuesdays: Taco Braid Recipe

We love tacos at the Witt house. We probably eat some sort of Mexican food at least once a week, and tacos are a fast, easy favorite. That said, I tend to get bored every now and then eating the same old stuff all the time, so this week, I decided to change taco night up by making one of my very favorite recipes from Celebrating Home... Taco Braid! Taco Braid is sort of like taco pie, is totally yummy and it's my go to recipe for open houses, fellowship suppers, etc. I posted a pic on The Mommy Blog Facebook Page last night and received a lot of messages about it, so I figured I'd better share the recipe on the blog!

You can easily cut this recipe in half if you're feeding 3-4 people. Start with 2 lbs cooked ground beef, seasoned with taco seasoning of your choice. You'll need 2 cans of crescent rolls and a rectangular baking dish. Lightly spray the dish with cooking spray, and begin to line the dish with the unrolled crescent roll dough. Largest side to the middle of the dish (half way point), triangle points facing outward. Smooth edges together (not the points- but the sides that are touching each other in the pan). Fill with seasoned taco meat... some will spill out and that's fine. Top with shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheeses... about 1-1 1/2 Cups. Fold triangle points over top of the filling, forming a 'braid.' Really, just overlap them... you don't have to get fancy with it. Bake in a 350 oven for about 20 minutes or until the dough is cooked through and golden brown. Add extra cheese over top, and stick back into the oven just to melt it, if you like.

Overlapping should look something like this. Because I made a half recipe, I used a round baking dish. Mine looks sloppy because I had a certain little man in one arm!

Taco Braid right out of the oven...

With extra melted cheese on top...

 Going, going... almost gone!

 Dinner is served!

Serve with your favorite taco toppings... salsa, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. Add a side or rice and beans or tortilla chips, and you've got a quick and easy crowd-pleasing meal the entire family will love and ask for again and again! We never have leftovers when I make the Taco Braid! Hope you'll give this easy recipe a try!
