Meg's Discovery Toys Review and Giveaway

~Proud sponsor of Balian's 1st Birthday Bash~

What is it about birthdays that scream toys? Even before our babies are born, we (along with our friends and loved ones) are buying toys! I think adults love to buy toys because it takes them back to their childhood. I am drawn like a magnet to the toy aisle just about every time I walk into a store- can't help it! Toys are certainly a lot of fun, and they've come a long way from the toys I played with as a young girl. When I look for toys for my son, however, I tend to look for toys that will help him learn and develop. There are a lot of toys out there with a lot of bells and whistles and hefty price tags, too! Sometimes the fancy toys can be a little bit overwhelming- for everyone.

When Meg Powers of Discovery Toys saw that we were looking for items for Balian to review for his first birthday, she excitedly e-mailed me, wanting to send Balian a toy, appropriate for his age. I am sort of new to Discovery Toys, but the more I read about their toys and the more I get to experience them firsthand, the more I absolutely love them. Discovery Toys aims to help children learn through playing. They specialize in all sorts of games, toys, books and more for children from birth to school age. Many of us learn by doing- it's certainly true with me, and I wouldn't expect it to be any different for my own child. Balian loves to play! He's very curious, and pays a lot of attention to how things work, look, feel and sound... and taste!

Meg chose to send Balian a wonderful toy- the Story Stacker. It came to us all wrapped up, so I decided to put it aside, stick a bow on it and let Balian open it at his actual birthday party. We helped him tear into it, and he squealed when he saw the box! Who would squeal at the cute picture of the toy on the box?

Story Stacker from Discovery Toys...

Balian just really started to play with the Story Stacker last night, and he moves so quickly that I haven't been able to snap a good picture of him with it yet. When I do, I'll post it! I love the Story Stacker because it's like the plastic stacker that I used to have when I was a little one, but this one is way better! This is a nine piece stacking toy set, which is quite fun. I've found myself playing with it a few times already! The stacker comes with three interchanging heads or toppers: a piggy, a cow and a chicken, each one a different shape. Each stacking wooden ring is a different color and size, featuring a different number. Balian has been enjoying stacking, clacking the rings together and playing with the animal face toppers. I have been making up silly stories about chickens, pigs and cows while we play and sing 'Old MacDonald.' I love toys like this... toys that encourage creative play! I know that Balian will learn and discover a lot of new things as this toy grows with him.

Here's a better picture of the Story Stacker...
