Milkin' Cookies Review and Giveaway

Before Balian was born, I decided that I wanted to breastfeed him. There were many factors that determined my decision: health benefits for Balian, health benefits for myself, free baby food, convenience and bonding. After he arrived, I couldn't wait to try nursing him. He was a stubborn little thing, though, and had a hard time latching on right from the start, so we called in our lacation consultant, and she helped us to get off on the right foot. Nursing went well for a while, but after time, Balian became a fussy eater. I've been dealing with supply issues for a long time because of that, and have spent countless hours pumping, and countless dollars on teas and herbal supplements that seemed to show little improvement.

Desperate for something to change, I jumped online and started looking for alternatives. I read about a cookie you could bake that was said to help boost a mother's milk supply. The list of ingredients seemed overwhelming, though- many of them were things I didn't have on hand, and would have to ask the local health food store to special order for me! Then one day, I came across a company called Milkin' Cookies.

Milkin' Cookies was started by two moms- Lennox and Cheri, who are also physicians. Like me, they were breastfeeding, and trying to increase their milk supply, but got tired of smelling like maple syrup from taking fenugreek. They knew there were other ingredients that were said to boost milk production, so they started playing around with recipes, and developed special cookies for breastfeeding moms! Hallelujah! I don't know about you mommas, but I'd much rather eat a cookie than mess with taking three fenugreek pills three times a day, feel bloated from it all day, and drink special teas (especially in these hot temperatures).

The mommy docs at Milkin' Cookies were kind enough to send me a two week (fourteen day) supply of their fabulous cookies to try out. I was so excited when I heard they were being sent to me, and I couldn't wait to try them. The cookies arrived a few days before we were leaving for vacation, which was perfect!

When the cookies arrived, this is what I got!

The supply of cookies also came with some literature, which I enjoyed reading, and a refrigerator magnet with milk storage instructions, which I wish I'd had when Balian was first born!

14 Cookies: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip and Cranberry Almond

I was eager to try the cookies, so I had one the day they arrived. Let me tell you something... I expected the cookies to be just that- cookies... pre-packaged cookies. I was very pleasantly surprised by how fresh and moist the cookies were, not to mention that they tasted absolutely delicious! I knew I would never want to go back to taking the fenugreek again!

So... the question is: Do they work? Well, after just two days, and having eaten two cookies, I noticed my supply started going up. I averaged one ounce more per pumping session the first week, and three ounces more per pumping session the second week! The cookies are individually packaged, which is great, because that made it so easy for me to toss one into my purse to eat while on the run. If I happened to be at home around 'cookie time,' I just popped it into the microwave for about ten seconds to warm it up and enjoyed it with a glass of cold milk!

This was a wonderful gift to me, and to my son. I absolutely love nursing him, and the thought of not being able to do it anymore because of supply issues really depressed me. I'll be sad when Balian doesn't want to nurse anymore, but thanks to Milkin' Cookies, he's nursing much better, and I'll keep at it as long as I can with him. Nursing my son is the best gift that I can give him... it's the best thing any mom can do for her child. If you're expecting a baby, I encourage you to breastfeed your baby. The experience is completely new, absolutely beautiful, it'll help you lose weight, and you and your baby will have a very special bond. And why not have some Milkin' Cookies on hand for when the time comes!
