The Weight of Mercy - The Escape I Didn't Know I Needed

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Frontgate Media. All thoughts are my own.

Every once in a while, a book lands in your hands at just the right time. Not a parenting book. Not a devotional. Not something telling you how to optimize your morning routine. Just a really good story.

That’s what The Weight of Mercy was for me.

If you’re a Christian mom who sometimes wants to escape into something epic — something with courage and faith and real stakes — this one surprised me in the best way. It’s classic heroic fantasy, but with depth. The kind that lets you breathe for a minute after a long day of being needed by everyone.

What I loved most? The paladins are actually at the center of the story. Not sidelined. Not made into villains. Not reduced to some tired trope. These men carry both the sword and a sacred vow, and the story takes that seriously. They fight evil creatures, yes — but they also wrestle doubt, obedience, and the heavy expectation to be merciful in a world where mercy can cost you everything.

And I kept thinking… isn’t that what we're living day to day, too?

As moms, we are strong and soft at the same time. We protect. We correct. We forgive. We extend grace when we’re exhausted. Mercy isn’t weakness — it’s costly. This book doesn’t treat that lightly. The spiritual weight these warriors carry feels real. They are flawed. Fervent. Human.

Such a wonderful read when wanting an escape.

The setting pulled me in immediately. It’s a shattered alternate Europe where chasms have split the land, demons break through into cities, and even time feels distorted. Kingdoms that should have risen or fallen collide instead. Geography twists. Eras bleed together. It feels medieval and familiar, but strained under supernatural disaster. If you love rich world-building like you find in authors such as J.R.R. Tolkien or C.S. Lewis, you’ll absolutely love this story.

My current bedroom book stack has The Weight of Mercy at the top.

So many modern stories love to tear down heroes. This one lets them be heroic — while still showing the cracks in their faith and resolve. It explores what it means to live under a calling that is bigger than your comfort. Bigger than your safety. Bigger than your understanding.

As a mom, that resonates. We carry responsibility every single day. We make decisions that shape hearts. We pray for wisdom when things feel unstable or uncertain. The weight of expectation can feel crushing sometimes. This story captured that spiritual tension in a way that felt meaningful, not preachy.

Sometimes we just need an escape that doesn’t make us feel drained afterward.

The Weight of Mercy gave me that.

It reminded me why I used to love epic stories — the kind where vows matter, courage matters, and mercy still matters. I didn't realize how much I missed reading stories like that. It was the perfect read for those quiet moments after the house finally settles, when you’re tired but not quite ready for bed, and you just want to step into another world for a little while.

You can find The Weight of Mercy at major retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Christianbook.com, or request it from your local bookstore. However you grab it, I truly think it’s worth adding to your stack.

If you’re craving something faith-infused and genuinely heroic, this might be your next favorite escape. And if you read it, be sure to let me know!
