There’s something about having a winter birthday that feels a little different. The world outside is cold and gray, the days are shorter, and everything seems to move a bit slower. No bright sunshine, no blooming flowers, no warm breeze. But this year, I was reminded that even when the weather doesn’t feel celebratory, joy still shows up in the most beautiful ways.
I just celebrated my birthday, and my heart feels so full.
Sometimes birthdays come with expectations. Big plans. Perfect moments. A certain “look” to the day. And while those things are lovely, what truly warmed me this year wasn’t anything flashy or over-the-top. It was the love. The messages. The calls. The hugs. The simple “thinking of you” notes that popped up throughout the day.
In the middle of cold, gray skies, I felt completely wrapped in warmth.
There’s something powerful about realizing how deeply loved you are. When friends, family, and even people you haven’t spoken to in a while take time out of their day to reach out, it hits differently. It’s a reminder that you’re seen. That you matter. That the relationships you’ve poured into over the years have roots that run deep.
As moms, we’re often the ones doing the celebrating for everyone else. We plan, bake, decorate, and make magic happen. So when the love is turned back toward us, it feels extra special. This birthday felt like a gentle pause… a moment to breathe, reflect, and simply receive.
I found joy in the small things...Sweet text messages first thing in the morning
Thoughtful posts and comments
The kids being extra loving
Quiet moments of gratitude
Feeling appreciated just for being me
No matter the season, birthdays have a way of reminding us how far we’ve come. Another year of growth. Another year of lessons. Another year of memories made and love shared. Even when life feels busy or heavy, days like this remind me that there is still so much to be thankful for.
So yes, it was cold. And yes, the sky was gray.
But my heart? It was glowing.
This birthday was a beautiful reminder that joy doesn’t depend on sunshine or perfect weather. Sometimes, it’s found in love, connection, and gratitude. And that kind of warmth lasts far longer than any candle on a cake ever could.
