Dog- Eared Pages & Big Opinions: Book Club Edition

Do you belong to a book club? This year, I invited myself to try something new: a local bookclub at our newest (and closest to me) coffee/bakery! I hope that this bookclub gets kicked off well, as it's currently pretty small, and I don't want it to pieter out.

Just starting in early January, we haven't gotten very far into our read list, but all of us have big opinions on our current title!

Gone Girl, a 2012 thriller by Gillian Flynn, has now been out for 14 years! Why I never read it way back when (or even watched the movie), I don't know; because this book has it all!

Relationships, romance, intrique, mystery, and more invite the reader to explore a vasty variety of topical issues that infilitrate every day life; from depression to self- esteem issues that can abound in every relationship.

I'm hoping to finish the book tonite for Wednesday's bookclub, and am already so twisted because of the many turns this writer has taken! It took me a while to get into it, but once that switch flipped, it's certainly interesting!

I think next up on the list is Colleen Hoover's Verity, which also turns into a movie this fall! This book is about a writer who is hired to finish a book series (be a ghostwriter) after it's original owner becomes incapicitated due to an accident. Another thriller that combines secrets, love, romance, and pyschological warefare, I'm already intrigued!

I'll be honest, thrillers aren't usually on my "must- read" list. In fact, these are the books that are currently on my library's hold list:

Where the Rivers Merge by Mary Alice Monroe

Beach House Rules  by Kristy Woodson Harvey

That Last Carolina Summer  by Karen White

The Lady on Esplanade by Karen White (a ghost mystery... oooh)

The Violet Hour by Victoria Benton Frank

As you can see, my genre is more summer soutern fiction, with the occasional ghost story thrown in. So book club is already broadening my horizons.. as long as I don't get too creeped out by the mist while walking the dog late at night!

What's on your book club's (or personal) reading list?
