How to Beat the Time Change Blues

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, November can sometimes bring a heavy, gray feeling. The excitement of fall starts to fade, and the busy holiday season hasn’t quite begun. It’s easy to feel a little sluggish or unmotivated this time of year — that’s the November blues creeping in. But the good news? You can brighten your days with a few simple habits and mindset shifts.

Natural light is one of the best mood boosters. Open your curtains early, take a morning walk, or spend a few minutes outside during lunch. Even on cloudy days, the fresh air and daylight can lift your spirits and help reset your internal clock.

We invested in Kasa lights. They are voice activated and can change colors. Not only do I not come from work to a dark house, I can change to the best colors to boost my mood. I love that they are voiced activated.  I can set a schedule to turn them on or off, but the best part is the hubby and I aren't bickering about who has to turn the light off to go to bed. 😄
Make your space cozy.
Turn your home into a warm retreat. Light a candle that smells like cinnamon or vanilla, add a soft blanket to your couch, or brew a cup of tea in the evening. Creating a comforting atmosphere helps you look forward to slowing down at the end of the day.

Stay connected.
It’s tempting to hibernate when it’s dark and chilly, but connection is key to fighting off seasonal sadness. Call a friend, plan a movie night, or volunteer somewhere local — even small moments of social warmth can make a big difference.

Move your body.
Exercise doesn’t just strengthen your muscles — it strengthens your mood, too. Whether it’s a walk around the block, a yoga session, or dancing in your kitchen, movement helps release endorphins that combat the blues.

Focus on gratitude.
November is the perfect month to reflect on what you’re thankful for. Write down three things that brought you joy each day — big or small. Gratitude shifts your focus away from what’s missing and toward what’s meaningful.

Remember, it’s completely normal to feel a little off this time of year. But by adding light, warmth, movement, and connection into your routine, you can turn November into a month of calm instead of gloom.
