One of my favorite bible verses is John 1: 5. "For the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." One of my favorite seasons of the year is Advent. It's usually the busiest season in the church year, but it's a stark reminder that the light of the world is coming, that darkness does not win.
I really dislike how the world gets dark; both literally and figuratively. As I write this, the nights are shorter and the mornings earlier. My preference is light much later in the evening, but I get those who want light when they get up.
Then add in our current economical, political, and societal climate. It seems like darkness wins a lot with more violence, higher prices, and the feeling of less.
This season, as you prep for Christmas with lights, gifts, and decor; remember that Christ is at the core of who and whose we are. Considering gifting yourself or a loved one the One Year Bible for Women/ Men.
This Bible includes:
- Daily readings for every day of the year
- Daily reflections/ devotionals written by Misty Arterburn
- A Canonical listing of the books with page numbers and dates/ months
- A Table of Contents
- User's Guide to help the read determine the best way to move forward
- Textual Footnotes as needed
- The Table of Contents: While following the daily reading plan is recommended, one could take a break from the daily readings and focus on a specific book of the bible instead. I like how, even if it's read on November 02 instead of April 01, there is still a devotional aspect included.
- Daily Readings include more than just one book of the bible. An Old Testament, a New Testament, and a Psalm are included in each daily reading, making each day fuller in God's word.
- The concise devotional is great for reflection and is great for various types of denominational beliefs.
- The New Living Translation, while it isn't the original Greek, does make reading easy and accessible for those who don't understand or don't have knowledge of the bible's background.
This would be a great gift for anyone:
- wanting to have more light in their lives
- wishing to dive deeper into the word in a compact, easy way
- wanting to challenge themselves to read the bible in a year
- need an easy devotional that actually includes scripture and context
