Ever since K-Pop Demon Hunters dropped on Netflix back in June, my kids and I have basically been living in Huntr/x world. Our house has turned into a glow-stick paradise, the soundtrack is on a permanent loop, and I may or may not have learned half the choreography to “Golden” (the other half is a work in progress… mostly because my knees have opinions).
But this movie isn’t just fun. It’s an explosion of music, style, heart, and action that has taken over our living room — and it recently headed to theaters for one magical weekend.
Why Everyone’s Talking About It
1. K-Pop + Fantasy = Perfection
The premise is genius — Huntr/x isn’t just a chart-topping girl group, they’re also demon hunters saving the world in sparkly boots and killer eyeliner. It’s like someone mixed a K-pop concert with a supernatural anime and sprinkled it with glitter.
2. The Music is Ridiculously Catchy
“Golden” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (first girl group to do it since Destiny’s Child in 2001!) and my kids belt it out like they’re headlining Seoul Stadium. Then there’s “Soda Pop,” which will live rent-free in your head after one listen. Trust me, resistance is futile.
3. Gorgeous Animation
It’s eye-candy in every frame — neon lighting, intricate choreography, stylized designs, and chibi-cute moments that make you want to pause just to soak it in. Even the tiniest details in the characters’ faces show so much cultural authenticity.
4. Heart Behind the Glitter
Beyond the sparkle, there are deep themes about identity, self-acceptance, and friendship. Rumi’s storyline in particular is emotional and so relatable — I actually teared up in the middle of the popcorn bowl.
Mom Verdict
This movie is rated PG, and while there are some mild spooky moments, it’s totally fine for older kids and tweens. The music, visuals, and humor keep everything upbeat — and you’ll walk away humming something without even realizing it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a glow stick to find and a chorus of “Golden” to rehearse. I may or may not have found an awesome vocal coach on YouTube with an amazing vocal lesson for this very song!
Have you seen K-Pop Demon Hunters yet? It's streaming on Netflix- both the original movie, and the sing-along version.
