It seems that while we the evenings get darker, the days feel shorter, the months still go by just as quickly. 

If you haven't planned your October adventures, it's time! Coastal NC is wonderful to explore in October. Although we can still have hot temperature days, we don't have the summer's high humidity or the crazy tourists! 

If you want a quick beach visit combined with some family- friendly fun, it might be worth checking out Wilmington and the surrounding areas this fall. Between river and beach explorations, fall is the perfect time to visit the battleship, see the Bald Head Island Lighthouse, discover adventure at the Aquarium (especially before it's impending closure for major much needed renovations) and many festivals! 

Thinking about a quick getaway during October? Check out one of these family-friendly events.

1) Riverfest (Oct 4-5): Arts & Crafts, Music, and a Kid's Zone! It's usually still hot, so don't forget your water. 

2) Head to Raleigh for the NC State Fair (October 16 - 26). From crazy food concoctions to live music, plus educational adventures (including agricultural and animal related ones), it's surely an adventure for everyone. Tip:  advanced ticket sales = savings! Tickets are more expensive at the door.

3) Trask Family Farm, located outside Wilmington in Castle Hayne, full of fall fun! Corn mazes, pumpkin picking & more! Open Sept 20 - Nov 02.

4)  Hubb's Farm, Clinton, has all the fall things: corn maze, hayrides, pumpkin patches, animals, concessions, kids activities, & more! Sept 20- November 01. 

5) Fort Fisher Aquarium's Ocean- to- Ocean Trick or Treating: typically held around the last weekend before Halloween. 

Of course, if festivals and events are not your thing, no fall can be complete without a bit of baking! Whether it's decorating pumpkin sugar cookies or making mini apple pies, there are plenty of kitchen ideas too.

There's always lots to do, no matter where you live or whether you decide to adventure out/ stay home!
