Buy Your Tickets to See Noah: Live In A Movie Theater Near You!

Thanks to Fathom Entertainment for providing movie tickets! All thoughts are my own.

Thirty years ago, Sight and Sound Theater premiered their first production, Noah. I remember going to it as a middle school student with my youth group. I was in awe of the arc, the animals, and the striking sounds/ lights that bring the audience right into the story.

Well, Sight and Sound partnered together with Fathom Entertainment to bring Noah to our local movie theaters, so that we don't have to travel to Lancaster to see the show!

Last night, I ventured out to see Noah at my local movie theatre and the show did not disappoint. The show was recorded in front of a live audience, with a lot of real life animals!

What is Noah about? Well, if you were raised in the Christian faith at all, you probably remember the basics of the story:

  • Noah, as a descendant of Abraham, was a faithful follower of Jehovah (God).
  • One day, Noah heard God's voice telling him to build an arc because of the unfaithfulness and sin of God's people.
  • Water would cover the earth, essentially drowning/ killing everything in it.
  • God would redeem the world because God saved Noah and his family for being faithful

Noah is a live musical/ play that uses live animals in a lot of the scenes. At the very end, you can tell that some used are actors or animatronics, but there are still lots of real animals, including camels, skunks, pigs, and even one lovable fluffy dog!

Due to the recorded nature of this production, there is a small intermission in the middle, as there is in real life shows. During that time, while it's easy to disappear to use the restrooms and refill popcorn, you miss hearing from the animal trainers that help make this production happen!

I loved the viewpoint from this production as well. Using a lot of cameras, aerial shots, and close up frames, we feel like we are on stage with the characters, not just in the audience!

Well, last night, the produced I viewed portrayed all this and more. In our bible stories, especially as a child, we get the glossed over version because we focus on the hope and redemption that God brings through Noah's family. We dislike talking about the hard, bad, stuff, especially as children.

This production aims to not only show God's love and faithfulness, but the difficulties that God's people face while remaining hopeful and faithful ourselves. It shows Noah's humanity through the trials of his own relationship with God, through the trials with his family, and even with his community.

One of Sight and Sound's goals is to include the audience in the story, and I think that this was well- done. Through the soundtracks, casting, and script; I can envision the very same conversations that we have with God on a daily basis. Noah didn't give up, waiting for God to fulfill God's promises for 100 years. We too, often have to wait for God; and encounter opposition from our community and world in the process.

Yet, the end is clear. God's faithfulness brings hope and new life. Not only is God faithful to us, when we are faithful to God's calling, great and wonderful things happen that we can't even dream!
