Summer Dislikes- Yes, they exist.

I think most regular persons like summer. While many still work, there are more opportunities to travel, the daily grind seems lighter, and of course the days are longer to spend outside.

I live near the beach, so for us locals, while we know we need tourism and the tourist season, we avoid the beaches, lakes, and whatnot until its time for "locals summer" in the fall.

Summer for me is often full of events, trips, and lots and lots of planning. Youth trips, summer camp, day camp, and fall planning leave little time to really experience summer. And so far this year, our summer has been miserable! It made me think about all the things I dislike about summer that I've experienced already.. even though there are so many things to love! Here they are!

Things I dislike about summer:

1) The humidity.

I can deal with heat & sun, but humidity sucks the life out of me. Walking the dog at 10 PM the other night, it was 88 with 81% humidity. At night. Yea, thats ridiculous.

2) Thunderstorms

Why, oh why, must there be so many thunderstorms in the summer? The intense "can't see the road" rain spurts, coupled by the bolts of lightning and loud bangs of thunder don't do much for me. It gets really hot right before and right after a thunderstorm, too!

3) Bug.. particularly mosiquotoes.

While all God's critters got a place in the choir, I never understood why God wanted us to have mosquitoes and roaches. These two particular bugs annoy the heck out of me in the summer. And y'all non coast people- palmetto bugs & water bugs are still roaches no matter the name locals give to make ourselves feel better. They fly, they are attracted to light, and they like to terrorize us when we walk our pets in the evening as they scatter across sidewalks.

4) Lighter mornings

Most people love early bright mornings. Not me. I hate them. I like to sleep and often go to bed later than the average person. I am glad that I have blackout shades but when I travel, I dislike the sun shining through the flimsy curtains at camp or hotel rooms. I know, that might make me weird..but I love darker lazier mornings.

While there are many things to love about summer, these are just a few of the dislikes. Let's hear yours- both the good and bad!
