How to Keep a Clean Home with Pets in It

Is it really possible to have pets in the home and have a clean home at the same time? I think so, and I am sharing my top tips for making the house cleaner when pets live there. You don’t have to let them make you feel annoyed about all of the pet hair, accidents, and other things they leave behind. Try my tips now and see a difference in how clean your home stays.

Brush Your Pets often

I think this is something that most pet owners should be doing but often neglect. Look, if you have pets inside the house, they are going to shed. The cats and dogs will leave hairs behind, and some will leave more behind than others, but they all do it. It is a fact of life, and you can simply put up with it or do something about it.

You don’t always want to be cleaning up large amounts of pet hair, right? So, my solution is to brush the pets down often. You can do this just once a week and see a big difference. That will get rid of most of the loose hair that builds up, and the more frequently you do this task, the cleaner your house will be.

Just find a place where you don’t mind if their hair falls to the ground, like the front porch of your house, and brush away. It only takes a few minutes but saves you a lot of time later on hunting down all the places the pet hair has gotten.

Take the Pets for Regular Walks

Your pets like a clean house too, but if you never let them outdoors, how can they shake off hair, clean themselves, or do their business anywhere but inside the house? It would be impossible, since they probably cannot operate the front door. So, you should take them for walks outside pretty often

Take them for a walk a few times a week, and what you will see is that they shed less often in the house and leave “presents” behind less often as well. Pets don’t like the smell of their droppings any more than you do, so they would prefer to do their business outside. You can help them with that by taking them for walks periodically. It wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if you took them for walks a couple times a day sometimes.

You will also notice that your pets are happier and better adjusted, and they sleep better since they will be getting more exercise. You will feel better too thanks to the walking, and you won’t have as much cleaning to do.

Have Your Home Professionally Cleaned

Have you thought about using an expert house cleaning service? This is something that many pet owners swear by. Knowing that specialists in cleaning do an excellent job of making their homes look spotless.

Professional cleaners like FindMyLocalCleaner do a wonderful job of getting rid of stains left by pets, removing pet hair, and even getting the smell of pets out of the house. If you have them come in every now and again, they can make quite a difference in how clean your home looks, feels, and smells. They can make less work for you by cleaning up not just after your pets but also yourself and your household.

It is a good idea to tell the cleaners before they arrive to clean for you that you have pets in the house. Tell them what kind of pets so that they can bring the appropriate stain and odor removers and so they will be properly prepared for the work that they have to do.

Change Water and Food Dishes Regularly

How long do you wait until you change out the dishes that contain your pets’ food and water? Do you wait until mold is growing there or they begin to stink? That’s really too long to wait, and we suggest changing these out at least once a week.

Water dishes may need to be changed out every day, depending on how messy your pets are and how often they put their paws into the dish. Food dishes will need to be changed out less frequently if you only feed them dry food and more frequently with wet food.

How often you need to change these out will depend on how many pets you have, how large they are, and how they treat their dishes. It helps if you place the dishes in an area where pets can walk around them easily and where they will not be toppled over accidentally.

Clean Out Litter Boxes Often

You will also want to clean the litter box frequently, and the frequency depends as well on how many pets you have and how they treat the litter box. Be sure to change out the box more often when your pets are unwell and their droppings smell more potent.

You will also want to train your pets to have good behavior with the litter box. Some pets will scatter the litter sand or rocks, and others will do their business beside the box rather than in it. You may have to spend some time training them or consider that there could be a health reason why they are acting that way.

If you are not keeping the litter box tidy, then pets may do their business on the scattered pieces from the little box rather than in the box itself.

Are you doing all of these things to keep your home tidy? If you aren’t then you may benefit from following a few suggestions and making your home neater and cleaner. Pets do not have to mean that you have an untidy home, and we hope that some of these suggestions are very helpful for you and cause you to feel stressed and frustrated less often.
