Thanks to Terra Americana for sending over these mixes in exchange for a review. All thoughts are my own. |
I have been rewatching one of my favorite tv shows. Partly out of boredom, partly of nostalgia, a particular episode stood out to me recently. The matriarch of the family, dying of cancer, spent some of her last days with her daughters, teaching them the family soup recipe. Later on, the daughter shared the love and recipe with her son, teaching him all the skills and tips that her very mom taught her and recently reminded her.
For some of us, those very memories pop up- our grandmothers, mothers, and perhaps even fathers teaching us the family secrets to the famous holiday recipes. Maybe we remember standing on the stool, slowing stirring in the flour and eggs to make a batter. Maybe we remember the mess and chaos when we accidentally tipped the bowl over, or the aroma of the wonderful baked item when it was removed from the oven. Maybe we remember the patiently loving arms surrounding us, helping us grip what our little hands couldn't.
These things are at the heart and soul of Terra Americana along with making it easy to do home cooking in our busy world. Connecting the past to the present; mixes and spices help us create simple recipes and better ingredients, which means better choices for us and our communities.
I was sent several different mixes to try out, and I definitely love all of them! I've always loved baking, even so much so that I spent a summer of camp doing it, learning even more secrets and trades from the camp chefs. Humidity, altitude, the temp of butter, all of it plays a role in our baking.
Best Ever Brownie Mix
This wrapped tube contains a very decadent mix that creates a wonderful brownie everyone will love! While there are a few options available, I chose to go with the classic flavor. The mix contains a slight bit of nutmeg and orange oil that gives it a different flavor over the classic grocery store mixes, but I loved it! Warm, gooey, and add what you want to it, this will be a crowd pleaser at any holiday gathering.
While different from normal mixes, instructions are still quite simple. Melt the chocolate chips (wrapped in a separate bag) with butter over a double burner, add the eggs, then mix together for a smooth batter. Oh, be sure to sift the batter first to break up those clumps!
I would recommend mixing dry with wet, versus the other way, to make sure all dry is incorporated properly. Just made for myself, these brownies didn't last very long. I might have been binging brownies that weekend! Good thing I walk the dog a lot :)
Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
I love a good classic chocolate chip cookie. My favorite cookie, and I'm kind of particular about them if they are homemade, too. Of course, I won't turn a chips ahoy or keeblers soft bake down either! Anyway, I love my cookies warm and gooey, and while the texture of these were slightly different, they didn't disappoint at all.
Adding eggs, oil, and water to the mix makes for a super easy cookie that bakes quickly in the oven! The amount of cookies will vary depending on the size you scoop them out to be!
Lavender Biscuit Mix
Biscuits are a staple of breakfasts and sometimes dinners across the country. Handmade, these babies can take a while, so many opt for frozen or quick mixes. I love finding creative good mixes that still make quality fluffy warm breads. This mix needs heavy cream, vinegar, and butter plus a pastry blender.
I still haven't used the Vanilla Mix yet, but I know with upcoming picnics I will have a chance too, and I'm sure it's the same quality as other mixes Terra Americana has sent over.
I am also excited that Terra Americana provides specialty spices & sugars too! Be sure to check out the spices, condiments, and sugars that will add wonderful flavor to any meal!
I am especially excited to use the orange vanilla sugar as an additive in tea and sugar cookies to create a unique flavor. There are some other flavors as well as sanding sugars, so find your favorite flavor for all your baking creative needs!
While specialty foods are at the core of Terra Americana, they also offer a unique selection of gift items, included homemade scented soap bars. I chose the Eucalyptus Lavender goats milk to test out as I love the smells, they often help with relaxation and sinus congestion, and goats milk is super nourishing for skin. Using natural ingredients, they are also eco-friendly and cruelty-free. They make a perfect gift item, especially when added with their other botanicals like foot soaks and scrubs.
All of Terra Americana products make the perfect gift this holiday season! Hostess gifts, gifts for the baker/ cooker, and gifts for your own home as you host your friends & family. They are also super easy to put classic desserts and foods on your holiday table too! Not only do you save time, but you know that ingredients are pure and good for your soul and heart.
This holiday season, purchase Terra Americana specialty products just in time for the holiday season! I can't wait to try more, like their scone mixes!
