A few weeks ago, my husband and youngest daughter were on their way home from a quick trip to our nearest Costco. It was a routine trip for essentials on a busy Friday afternoon. The traffic coming out of Mooresville, NC (home to Lake Norman) is always bananas, and on Friday afternoons it's even worse than usual. There was a sudden halt to the traffic ahead of my husband, who was driving our sedan, and before he knew it, he had crashed into the truck in front of him.
Luckily, no one was hurt. The airbags didn't deploy, so the impact wasn't bad, and I don't think our two-year-old even realized that anything had happened. The front passenger side of our car, however, received the brunt of the accident damage, leaving the front corner completely smashed in, and the door unable to be opened.
No one wants to receive a call to let them know that their loved ones were just in a car accident. It's the second time my husband has been in an accident, and thanks be to God, he was protected each time, and our daughter was protected this time, too. After the initial shock set in, the upset over the car followed. It was my car that was wrecked, though I had not been driving it much since we became a family of five. It made more sense for me to drive our Subaru Outback, since I was the main parent carting all three children around most of the time. Sach had been driving my Legacy, a car I loved, and now it's totaled.
While we had planned on trading the Legacy in, and I knew I would have to say goodbye to my car, I wasn't prepared to see it mangled and to have a towing company come to my house and haul it away, which happened yesterday. I didn't get to drive it one last time, which has left me a bit sad.
Buying a new SUV sounds exciting, and I know we will be excited about it when we purchase it. In the meantime, the unfun stuff- dealing with our insurance company (which has been absolutely wonderful), schlepping around in a loaner car, waiting for our check and for this process to come to a close so we can shop for an Ascent has been tough to deal with. Waiting is so hard for me. I just want to wave a magic wand and for the whole thing to be over and done with.
It's a very busy time of year for our family. These next two weeks are as busy for us as the weeks leading up to Christmas, so it really couldn't have happened at a worse time. All in all, I'm thankful that everyone is safe, the old car is off our property and signed over to the insurance company, and we're one step closer to buying our new vehicle.
In recent years, I have prayed for things- a bigger house, a new car, to sing more at my church, and God has heard the desires of my heart and has answered... just not in the way that I thought.
Have you ever had prayers that were answered in a different way than you thought they would be? Feel free to share in the comments or chat with us on Facebook and Instagram.
Blessings on your day,
