Spain, Mallorca—the pearl of the Mediterranean. If you want to enjoy water fun and spend your vacation leisurely "doing nothing" on the beach, you're in the right place. It's less known that Mallorca is also a destination for excursions. Let's take a virtual stroll through the most interesting tourist spots that Mallorca has to offer.

Mallorca is among the largest islands in the Mediterranean and also one of the most visited tourist destinations. This is especially true from June to mid-September, considered the main tourist season. If you are most interested in excursions in Mallorca, we recommend visiting the island from late October to mid-April. While it may not be the time for beach fun (or frolicking in the sea), it's an ideal period for hiking if occasional showers, especially in the mountainous areas of Mallorca, don't bother you. During this time, you'll also encounter the fewest tourists.

Excursion to Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is the island's capital that you are likely to visit at least twice; it hosts the international airport. If you decide to stay in another part of the island, we recommend taking a trip to Palma de Mallorca at least once

If you've chosen accommodation in the town of Sóller, you can opt for a stylish journey on the historic Red Arrow train, which travels from Sóller to Palma de Mallorca. The route offers beautiful views, with numerous gardens in close proximity to Sóller. You might even pluck a citrus fruit from the train window—we mention this only as an interesting fact, not as a recommendation or encouragement to violate traffic rules.

In the main city, there are several sights worth seeing:

  • La Seu Cathedral: A unique 400-year-old sandstone cathedral dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dominating the cityscape. It captivates visitors with rays of light piercing the interior through vibrant stained glass windows. You can see the exterior of the cathedral in the introductory image of this article.

  • Almudaina Palace: The former residence of monarchs and governors, located in the vicinity of the aforementioned cathedral. Currently, the palace interiors host exhibitions of a historical museum.

  • Pueblo Espanol Museum: Another museum, this time showcasing architectural miniatures and Spanish folk crafts. It is housed in a remarkable complex of buildings designed as historical fortifications.

  • Bellver Castle: For this attraction, you'll need to venture just outside Palma de Mallorca. This Gothic castle is located just beyond the city. Once a royal residence, it now serves visitors as a historical exhibition.

Mallorca and Private Boat Excursions

Transportation on Mallorca is relatively accessible. Buses are reliable, tickets are reasonably priced, and it eliminates the hassle of renting a car (which is otherwise recommended to be done at least 3 months before the start of your vacation). Of course, maritime transport is widely available; approximately 80 ferries operate between Mallorca, the neighboring island of Menorca, and other destinations every week (during the tourist season). From almost any major port, you can embark on a private boat or catamaran excursion.

Excursions to Remote Destinations in Mallorca

If you prefer hiking trips to less-populated areas of Mallorca, consider visiting these beautiful places:

  • Deia: A secluded village that was once a favorite spot for artists seeking creative inspiration. It remains one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Mallorca.

  • Coves dels Hams and Coves del Drach: Enchanting karst caves with underground lakes that you can visit near the town of Porto Cristo on the eastern coast of Mallorca.

  • Valldemossa: A charming town on the western coast of Mallorca that feels like a tranquil oasis. Worth visiting is the Carthusian Royal Monastery, where composer Chopin spent part of his life.

Mallorca: Excursions with Experiences

Mallorca offers more than just local specialties, bars, and beaches; it also boasts mountain villages, monasteries, and almost untouched nature. If you haven't visited the pearl of Spain, Mallorca, we hope this article has provided you with enough inspiration.
