Sometimes the light can be a smile to a passerby or a planned-out treat of some kind for someone you know is going through a tough time. When you are blessed, you should be a blessing to others with what you have - no matter your financial status - you have something to give, whether it is your time or talent or passion. When you are down, being a blessing to others can give both you and them a lighter load to bear.
The Grenchus Foundation offers these definitions of being the light in their devotional blog post "What Does it Mean to be the Light?"
"To be the light means in times of darkness you offer hope, encouragement, kindness and compassion. In times where others are struggling you offer a way to help them to regain their glow and to shine. To see the good and the beautiful - it is in this that truth is re-established...Sometimes to “Be the Light” means to carry on the torch for what needs to be completed or be made new...In concrete reality, being the light may be loving someone despite their flaws...It may be to radiate joy and celebrate the blessings that are present in life."
Here are a few ways you can be the light for someone else each and every day.
- Acknowledge them in some way - this can be a smile or a hello, or it could be giving a sincere compliment
- Share your experiences, good and bad, with others in order to encourage them
- Ask someone how they are doing and actually listen to their answer and encourage them
- Just sit with someone and allow your presence to give them peace
- LISTEN to someone - really listen without readying a solution or quip - let THEM talk
- Give a small token of affection so the person knows you thought about them
- Use your passion to bring joy to another person
- Put yourself in their shoes and be empathetic to their situation, emotions, and physical well-being
What is one thing you could do this week to be a light in someone's life?
Blessings,
