A Song Of Encouragement When You Feel The World Has Stopped Caring About You

I've been thinking about the lyrics to this song quite a bit lately.

If you haven't been introduced to Maverick City music yet, allow me to be the one. They are a community of singers, songwriters and musicians that aim to unite the separated through music. The message of their music is not depravation, but rather the freedom that comes in having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I love this.

I grew up in a Baptist church and while some reading this may immediately think that equates to a legalistic, rigid atmosphere, that couldn't be further from the truth. I had a couple of amazing pastors and pastor's wives. Individuals that were not stuffy, oppressed or preaching "fire and brimstone" from the pulpit each week. They were real people and they let us know that Jesus wanted us just as we were. As a young person, my relationship with my youth pastor was one of the most critically influential relationships in developing my walk with the Lord. I can honestly say that I believe I would not be who I am today spiritually, were it not for Bryan and Anita Clark in Glen Burnie, Maryland. God used them in my life in a giant way.

However, I know that not everyone has had the same experience. As an adult, I've unfortunately witnessed friends that grew up in the same circles as myself, turn away from Christianity. Somewhere along the way they allowed flawed people to be a determining factor in what they believed about God, rather than let God speak for Himself, through His word.

Growing up in church, literally IN church almost as often as the doors were open, Christian music was very normal to me. My parents played records at home, my youth group went to Christian rock concerts and I was singing every word to "Jars Of Clay" tunes. I didn't branch out and find my unique taste in music until I was a teenager, but even when I did, I never lost my love for praise and worship music. I've always found music to be one of the most soul-bearing forms of worship available to us.

We can openly sing what we sometimes cannot find the words to say.

This is a song that I need in my life because these lyrics are words that I want to say to God but sometimes cannot quite piece together, coherently. By the way, did you know that's ok too? God knows your heart. When you can't find any words, just call on Jesus and He will be there. He knows you better than you know you!

Read these lyrics and then watch the video below if you're feeling like God has given up on you. If you're feeling like God can't possibly have enough patience for you. If you're wondering if God is still listening when the quiet is seemingly deafening. If your heart feels vacant and you're not sure you're interested in tomorrow. You will make it. You will get through this. God has not forgotten you.

All things are possible
When we believe
Old chains are breakable
When we receive
Yahweh
You keep Your promises
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, hey!
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
'Cause You're a man of Your word
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
You're a man of Your word, yeah, sing it
I know all things are possible
When we believe
And old chains are breakable
When we receive
Yahweh
You keep Your promises
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it (sing it out)
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
'Cause You're a man of Your word
If You said it, we believe it
If You said it, we believe it
'Cause You're a man of Your word
We have this confidence
You'll finish what You started
God, You have never failed
You won't start with me
You're present in every step
Patient in every heartache
God, You have never failed
You won't start with me

I hope this song encourages you today. If not today, tomorrow. In fact, one thing we do know for sure is there will come a moment when we feel lost, alone or afraid. When that moment arrives, I hope you'll seek out people who point you toward Jesus and music that lifts your soul and encourages your heart.

Blessings,
