Deciding to Choose Joy

I'm not going to lie, I've had a bit of a hard time mentally this week. I'm exhausted, frustrated with things out of my control, and in desperate need of a bit of ocean therapy. What I wouldn't give to be on a beach sipping a fruity cocktail, but instead I've been sitting at my desk staring at a computer screen. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy what I do, but I needed a bit of a break from life and so I did what any other person would do, I got on my phone!

I started off with the usual scrolling of my social media feeds,  only to subconsciously switch over to reading random emails claiming, 40% off, or free contactless delivery.  After several aimless minutes, I somehow stumbled into my phone's photo gallery and began scrolling through hundreds of random photos, but a theme began to emerge from these random photos. I noticed that I was taking photos of my dogs while they were sleeping. While that might seem weird to some people, it honestly brought me joy to scroll through those pictures, smiling at their sleeping faces, wondering what kind of puppy dreams they could be having.

What made me smile even more was seeing some photos of our dog, Buddy, who we had to have put down last November. Seeing his sweet, little face was just the joy I had needed in that moment. It brought a bit of calmness in my heart and gave me a spark I didn't know that I needed. It encouraged  me to look for joy everyday, like the birds at my feeder, or a rainbow after a storm. These are all gifts from God, and I'm not going to over look them. I'm going to take it all in, one day at a time and remember to find my joy and happiness, even in the small things!
