This New England girl does not like the winter.  I live for the day the little groundhog tells me winter is almost over.  In the past week we have been seeing the sun stay out longer and we know that means spring is around the corner.  I am hoping the little groundhog confirms.

It is funny to me that this little rodent is a superstition that "predicts" when winter ends.  Have you ever thought about why?  I have and me being me, I needed to look it up.  Why is it a groundhog is the chosen animal to "predict" the end of winter?

Groundhogs are some of the first animals that awaken from hibernation in the winter.  It is said that if they see their shadow they get spooked and go back into hibernation for six weeks more.  This cracks me up because it makes me think about how I need several alarms to awaken in the morning.  The groundhog is essentially telling us that it is too early to be awake and goes back to sleep.  How cute is that?
