They
say you cannot pick your family, but when it comes to my Gram I couldn't ask
for a better one. This woman has been an integral part of my life and
always will be. Today we celebrate your 92nd birthday and while there
will be presents the best one for all of us is you.
There has never been a
moment in my life where my Gram has not influenced me. I write thank you
cards, bless everyone when they sneeze, and love my husband stronger than I
ever thought possible. All these things I attribute to my
Gram.
Gram
is the strongest woman I know and one of the most selfless. Born during
The Great Depression with a large family- food was tight, but she will never
tell you that she struggled. When she got married, she had 3 daughters,
but it didn't keep her from adopting 2 sons so they would grow up knowing love
and family.
My Gram taught me to live each day to the fullest because tomorrow is not promised. I moved in with Chris before we got married and I was so nervous to tell her we were doing that. My very old fashioned, but hip Gram told me, "Better to live with him first because what if he is horrible and you don't like him anymore. Then you aren't stuck with him." I think she always knew I would be stuck with him because he is a wonderful man, but I love to share the story.
My Gram lost her husband to cancer some 36 years ago, but she still speaks of the genuine love they had for one another. There love was so strong it lives on today. My Gram taught me that love doesn't end when someone passes, but grows until you can be together again. Not once did my Gram date, look at, or want anyone other than my Grandpa. In 36 years nothing has changed. He was her soul mate then and even now.

Gram,
you may never fully understand the influence your presence has had on us.
Not once did we feel slighted or that you had a favorite grandchild. Your
love for us knows no limits and your beautiful spirit is something we can wish
to have gotten from you. Thank you for being my Gram. Thank you for being
the matriarch of the family that has always kept us strong and loved.
Please help me wish my Gram a Happy Birthday.
