The Best Cycling Destinations to Enjoy Fall Foliage

One of the best benefits of the fall is the beautiful foliage. As the colors change, many people want to get outside to enjoy some time in nature. Perhaps the best way to do this is cycling. It gives you a chance to take things slow and take in the foliage or to speed up a little when you’re ready to head home. Plus, cycling is a great form of exercise.

With the right bike, you can make even more of the fall foliage. For example, bikes designed for petite women are, of course, different from bikes for heavy guys. Find a bike that matches your riding style and size to enjoy your riding as much as possible. There are great options for mountain bikes for both men and women. These are a few great spots for seeing the fall leaves.

Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina
This area is vast and can offer cyclists both gentle countryside trails and more challenging mountain paths. The scenery is breathtaking, especially in mid-October. Consider staying in Brevard, a small town in the middle of the forest. Pisgah National Forest is a wonderful chance to get out into nature, despite being only 30 miles from Asheville.

Sonoma County, California
Most people head to Sonoma for the wine. However, it is also an impressive destination for cycling and foliage sightseeing. Of course, there’s no reason you can’t do both. In fact, several tours offer both cycling and wine tasting. Whether you want to ride along a mountain pass or a trail through vineyard-covered valleys, Sonoma has something for you.

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
Although typically thought of as a summer getaway, Martha’s Vineyard has a lot to offer year-round. In the fall, it is a great example of New England foliage. Take the bike-friendly ferry out to the island and cycle around the roads. Since most of the vacationers are gone in the fall, you’ll find the island much quieter. Don’t forget to take in some of the historic homes and lighthouses as well.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Michigan
Situated along the shores of Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a perfect destination in early October. There is a paved path that is perfect for comfort bicycle riding. You’re likely to see young families as well as senior citizens riding along it. Don’t forget to enjoy some Michigan coffee and pie along the way.

Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, Washington
Up in the Northwest, visit the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. It offers a unique view of the Alpine Larches, a conifer that loses its needles, turning a beautiful golden color. Take either the Angel’s Staircase for a hike and bike trip or ride along the entirety of the Angel Loop, a cross-country excursion. This forest offers breathtaking views of both mountains and the fall colors.

Find the Ideal Bike
No matter what fall foliage destination you settle on, you will need the right equipment for the job. Whether you need some mountain bikes for challenging trails or hybrid bikes for more relaxed routes, getting you and your family the right bicycles is important. Take a look today and get ready for the fall leaves.
