Can Grapefruit Aid In Weight Loss?

The grapefruit is such an underrated fruit!

Grapefruit can be an acquired taste, but if you've never incorporated grapefruit into your diet, it may be worth it for your health.

According to health.com, grapefruit has some very beneficial health benefits!

At 92% water, grapefruit is one of the top hydrating fruits you can consume.

Because of it's low caloric value and high nutrient value, grapefruit may aid in weight loss if consumed as part of a healthy diet.

The white "pith" around the juicy flesh is rich in fiber and antioxidants so instead of discarding it, give it a try!

Grapefruit can help lower your "bad" cholesterol or LDL. LDL cholesterol can build up in your arteries putting you at risk for heart disease so incorporating foods that help to lower LDL can help to reduce your risk of heart disease.

Grapefruit is a great source of Vitamin C which will boost your immune system so get to snacking on some this winter!

70 million Americans have hypertension or high blood pressure. Adding grapefruit to your diet along with lowering saturated fat and sodium can help to lower blood pressure by 5 points. Because grapefruit has potassium, this acts as an agent that aids in neutralizing the negative effects of sodium.

Grapefruit can help control blood sugar.

Vitamin C also can aid in post-surgical healing and grapefruit carries a lot of this vitamin.

*Though grapefruit has MANY health benefits, check with your doctor if you take any medications as it is a food that can interact with certain medication.

I personally LOVE grapefruit and recently re-discovered it. Do you enjoy grapefruit? What fruits do you incorporate into your daily diet? Another one that I consume daily is bananas. Maybe I'll post about this amazing fruit another time!

Blessings,

  1. It's been a while since I've had grapefruit. I might pick some up the next time I get groceries! I usually eat bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and mango.
