My Cup Runneth Over, and Friend, So Does Yours

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” (Psalm 23:5)

Even in the midst of sorrow, pain, and hardships, my cup overflows with blessings. When I brewed a fresh cup of coffee yesterday (2nd cup), I hit the brew button and walked off. When I returned to it, I saw that my mug was filled to the brim and slightly overflowing with coffee. You see, there was still a bit of coffee left in the mug from my previous cup of coffee. 'Wow, that's really full,' I said out loud, no one else around to hear me.

For weeks, I've been pretty quiet, feeling sort of stuck in neutral. I've been needing to get my rear into gear but needed some direction. So, I asked God to talk to me, but I didn't feel like I was going to get any sort of answer. I waited, and waited some more, and resigned myself to the idea that I am in yet another season of life which requires a lot of patience.

As I've tried to work through hurts and grievances, wondering if I'm still relevant, and asking that big old question: 'Is there more?' God gave me the answer I needed. My cup runneth over.

Today, and every day, I'm thankful for a God who meets me where I am. Even when I'm tired, frustrated, am being incredibly impatient, God reminds me of the gifts He has given me. My cup runneth over.

When I get into a hurry and want things done my way, but have to wait anyway, I know that God is the one being patient- always walking with me at my own pace, rather than demanding I do more than I'm ready for. My cup runneth over.

What does your cup look like? Could it use some filling up? Give Psalm 23 a read and be encouraged. I hope and pray that as you look around you'll see that your cup also runneth over.

God is good.
