Spring Car Cleaning Tips

Spring is such a happy time of year, and one that most really look forward to. Spring can bring about lots of different types of weather from sunshine to rain, pollen showers, and even snow in some parts of the country. You can never really know what to expect from Mother Nature until the threat of ice, frost, and snow are over for the season. There are some things you'll want to pay attention to and take care of as far as your car goes, once the harsh elements of winter have vanished.

Here are a few spring car cleaning tips to help you get your car back in shape for the spring season.

Say goodbye to salt!

If you live in an area that sees a lot of wintry weather, such as ice, snow, and sleet, you've probably been dealing with salt build up for months. Some areas of the country start seeing heavy ice and snow as early as October and it often continues into the early weeks of spring. So, you're looking at six months of potential salt build up on your vehicle. No one likes to spend a lot of time or money on thoroughly washing their vehicles in the winter time, just to have the exterior covered in sludge again. Once the coast is clear and snow is out of the forecast, take your car to a local car wash and let their team give your car's exterior a good cleaning. That salt from the roads can cause major damage to your car's coat as time goes by if not properly removed.

Don't forget about fluids.

We're told to drink plenty of fluids to help keep our bodies in tip-top shape, and it's really no different for our vehicles. They also need plenty of the right fluids to help keep them running smoothly. Spring is the perfect time to check in and make sure your car has the right amount of fluids they need. Check oil levels, transmission fluid, and power steering to start with. These are all fluids that you can check in your own home garage. If you have questions, feel free to ask a dealership or your trusted mechanic.

Get some air.

Don't you just love driving down the road and seeing dogs with their heads poked out the car window? They love fresh air, and guess what? After a long, stuffy winter season, your car's interior needs fresh air, too! That's right, wait until summertime to crank up the A/C. During springtime, open up the windows and let some fresh air blow through your car. Make sure to crack open all of the windows a little bit so you get a nice cross breeze and even air flow through the car. If you transport kids or pets on a regular basis, the fresh air will really help get less than pleasant scents out of the car.

We tend to focus a lot on cleaning our homes during the first few weeks of spring, but don't forget about your car. You spend a lot of time in it, and it needs to be properly cleaned and taken care of, just like everything else in our lives. In fact, if you haven't started on your spring cleaning yet- start with your car first, and then work your way inside.
