Life is Like a Camera and I'm Struggling with My Focus

Happy Friday, friends. I'm feeling a little bummed out today because I was hoping for a snow day and was deeply let down by Mother Nature. It might seem greedy since we already have a 3 day weekend coming up, but I really wanted to just spend the day at home with my girls and not have to worry about too much else.

Since I started working, I've had feelings of not being focused on the truly important things in my life. I feel like I am spending less time with both girls, but especially D, who has reached the age where she'd rather spend much of her time on her own, doing her own thing. I knew it was coming, but since she's only 11, I thought I had a little more time.

Another thing I've noticed happening is I don't have the drive to do some simple things like meal plan or grocery shop. My weekdays consist mostly of being in between things. I wake up with D, make sure she has breakfast, see her off to school and then have about 45 minutes until I wake R up and do it all over again, except I drive her off to school. Then, I get home and have another hour or so until before I have to head back out for work. When I get home, I have 45 minutes until D gets home and after that, another 30 minutes before I have to pick up R. All my "me time" is during those "in-between" times, unless I feel like staying up way too late and being irritated by the fact when I wake up early the next morning.

I feel like my focus needs to be drawn back to the important things in my life versus the stress I feel because I am not focused on them. The question is, how do I get it back there?

What do you do when you feel this lack of focus? I'd love some tips and I'm sure you all have some great ones, so please leave some in the comments!

  1. I have days like that, where I just feel like I've lost my usual focus and things are falling behind. Sometimes I can drag myself back into line and other times I just decide I'm overwhelmed and have to let something go.

    1. Thanks for your comment. As much as it hurts me to know others go through similar feelings, I do find comfort knowing I am not alone. I hope you had a great day Tamra, have a nice weekend!

  2. With four kids, I feel like this a lot. I know that when I make a list and I can mark things off as I go, it makes me feel better even if I don't finish everything on the list. And remember that this is just a season. You love your family, the other stuff will fall into place.

    1. Thank you Amy! I usually feel better when I can check things off a list too, I have to get back into that habit.
